    Great Trip

    Greece: The Peloponnese Peninsula

What a beautiful ride through Greece! I loved riding through all the olive grove and grape fields, seeing the sheep in the street and the goats. The weather was perfect everyday. The bikes were great! The towns were fun to explore. We especially like Vytina and Nafplio. Our hotels were great. We asked for an upgrade to have a Seaview in Nafplio and we were glad we did! Our upgrade was right by the water and close to everything! The staff of Arcas were very helpful.
It was rated a 2 but I would say it was more of a 3. There were a lot of long descents but there was a fair amount of uphill as well.
I used a trek touring bike and I bike regularly 2-3 times a week 15-25 miles, but the hills were
    challenging for me.

    Our First European Cycle Tour

Aare Cycle Route: Along the Jura, Aare, and Rhine Rivers

Cycling is a great way to experience central Switzerland, with the Alps in the background and the Aare River alongside us. We took one reviewer’s advice and spent extra days in Interlaken to explore the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The Aare Cycle Path is well marked, but we had some difficulty in the transition from cycle path to city to hotel. All the hotels were comfortable and ideally located for exploring the Old Towns of each city. The boat ride on Thun Lake was wonderfully relaxing and scenic. Don’t miss the storks at Altreu - they are unique. We thoroughly enjoyed our Swiss vacation.

    Spain Was Wonderful!

    Medieval Villages of Catalonia

Our first trip to Spain was fantastic. This was not our first bike tour we were much better prepared. We had some difficulty navigating the Barcelona airport and train station to get to Girona. Once we arrived however, all was absolutely beautiful. I cannot give enough praise to Daniel. His briefing, preparation of the bikes and tips on stops along the various routes was excellent. He was a joy to work with. The only comment was to possibly reconsider staying one night in Monells instead of two. Monells is a very charming village but very small and limited sites to see. Otherwise, I would not change a thing! You will not be disappointed.

    Fantastic tour!

Cultural Splendors of the Peloponnese and Saronic Isles E-bike and Boat

My best trip in 20 years! This is not to detract from past trips but this Greece tour was well executed. The staff (8) made each of our 17 participants (all friends) feel individually special.
The meals were excellent with variety and abundance - lots of Greek style dishes, diversity of fish, beef, lamb, ham, fruits, vegetables, etc.
The guides - Chrysa and Marylou- kept the group informed, gave excellent bike tours, and adjusted the itinerary when needed. What a comedy team! They work so well together and we had so many laughs! The swimming at various beaches and off the boat was a highlight. The boat was beautiful, spacious for the group and comfortable. We thought the rooms were adequately sized as compared to other tours we’ve been on. Climate control was good in the rooms although the cool nights made sleeping easy. There was some mild diesel smell in some of the rooms but opening the portholes and running the room fans took care of that odor - which mostly resulted from wind direction or docking . The bad mattresses were firm but in excellent condition. The bikes were in excellent shape and got all of us up the hills without depleting the batteries. The service crew always made sure the rooms were daily cleaned and any of our needs were met. They were outstanding! The scenery was just so beautiful! If you like boats, great food, excellent staff, exercise and good views, don’t pass up on this excellent trip!

    Traditional Italy

    Cycling and Cooking in Sardinia

Wonderful tour with a company that values safety, quality equipment and cultural exposure. The route was exciting and safe with lots of bike paths and some secondary on-road travel. The guides stopped to point out cultural and natural points of interest. The selection of small boutique hotels that offered a greater immersion into the Sardinian culture was appreciated. The foods and meals were in most cases traditionally Italian . Really enjoyed the cooking classes , wine tasting and olive oil tastings/classes. Be prepared for a busy schedule with most days ending around 9-10 pm. Always had some down time of a couple of hours in the afternoon to relax, cleanup and swim in a pool. The pools were a little cool due to the early season lower temps but felt good on the legs! The bikes were terrific and nobody had a problem with lack of power. The guides kept everyone safe and had a good sense of humor. I would highly recommend the tour. Very professionally operated!

    The Best trip ever

National Parks of Dalmatia by Bike/E-bike and Boat

Every aspect of our tour was first rate and we would recommend this trip to everyone. From the moment we arrived at the gang plank to a couple of hours after we departed the Magellan, we were treated to first rate service by the land support staff and onboard crew. The tour, the sights and the cities visited were tremendous. The size of the tour (30), allowed us to get to know the entire group of travellers and we were fortunate to be joined by many interesting and enthusiastic adventurers . The single best aspect of our trip were our two guides, Dora and Serge. Their professionalism, enthusiasm and pride in their country made every part of the journey fun, interesting and an experience never to forget.
    Regards
    Beverley and Mike

    As relaxing as it gets

    Enchanting Cyclades and Saronic Islands

The tour truly lives up to its name. It offers the perfect blend of cycling, sailing, and exploring some of Greece’s most stunning islands. Each day brings something new, charming whitewashed villages, crystal-clear waters, and peaceful coastal roads with breathtaking views. The combination of guided bike rides and relaxing moments aboard the ship makes it both active and rejuvenating. The crew and guides are friendly and knowledgeable, and the food and atmosphere on board are excellent. A wonderful way to experience the Greek islands from both land and sea!

    Great way to experience Europe

    Salzburg to Vienna, Lakes Option

A wonderful experience. I have traveled to Europe many times, but this was the best way to see it in my opinion. I would recommend taking an extra day here and there along the ride to spend some additional time in areas that you have interest in so the focus isn't always.getting to the next destination. I think what makes this type of trip unique is that you are better immersed in the local sights and culture...you are on a bike, not in a bus or car. The countryside trickles by at a comfortable rate that encourages exploration. The lake portion of this particular trip involved considerable road travel which was a bit unexpected, but drivers were courteous and we quickly became used to it.

Dolomites to Trieste via Lake Bled at the Foot of the Julian Alps

This trip covers a lot of ground and a variety of spectacular scenery! My 4th bike trip and easily my favorite. We spent the extra day in Bled, which turned out to be a good decision and was a nice break after 3 days on the bikes.

    Awesome experience!

Danube Bike Path 8 Nights (Upscale Lodging)

Our bicycle trip from Passau to Vienna was absolutely wonderful. BikeTours performed flawlessly for which we were very thankful.
We purchased the "Upscale Lodging" which was well worth the money. Some of our hotels were stunning chateaus, others ultra-modern glass edifices, but all were very nice and located in desireable locations.
The bikes are big and heavy but ride comfortably and smoothly.
    Some advice to first-timers.
    1. The bikes are very big. If you are not at least 5'8" you should probably consider getting the women's bike as the cross bar on the men's bike is unusually high compared to the typical American bike.
    2. Bring a little pen light to help you find the bathroom at night without waking your partner. Staying in a different hotel each night can be a little disorienting, especially at 3 AM.
    3. Bring good rain gear, gloves, and a layer of warm clothing. Our last day's ride into Vienna was cold and rainy and we were all freezing by the time we reached our hotel.
    4. European hotels do not typically provide sheets. Instead, you get a single plush and very warm comforter. However, if the hotel room is warm it is hard to get the covers situated so you are not too warm or too cool. I would recommend packing a small sheet--or better yet a sleeping sack--to provide that "just right" sleeping temperature.
    5. BikeTours will provide you a packet of maps and directions for your trip. Study them thoroughly before each day's ride to avoid making wrong turns, especially in the bigger towns or cities. (We made some wrong turns in Vienna.)
    6. You will not have access to washers and dryers. To wash your underwear and socks bring a two gallon plastic storage bag and some liquid laundry detergents. (I used Woolite.) At your hotel fill the bag with water, detergent, and your dirty laundry. Agitate, soak, agitate, soak, agitate, soak, rinse, and then hang dry. If something is still wet in the morning affix it to your bike rack and let the wind and the sun dry it while you ride. It works perfectly.
    7. Be gracious. Germans and Austrians are kind, friendly people. Compliment the many things they do well, they will be very appreciative.
    8. Be excited, because you'll love the trip.

This was the best of my Four European Bike Tours

Innsbruck to Salzburg: Through the Alps Along River Cycle Trails

We traveled in late-August to early-September of 2025. The scenery was more stunning than I imagined it would be and the weather was perfect nearly every day; sunny skies, mild temperatures, and cool nights. (Most European hotels do not have AC so cool nights were a real blessing.)

Our e-bikes were in excellent condition and all of them worked flawlessly during the entire trip.

The breakfast's were hearty meals including meats, cheeses, eggs, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee, and some pastries.

Some thoughts about the cycling. Using a GPS app to map your day's ride is critically important if you do not want to get lost. Austria is full of biking and hiking trails so it is very easy to take the wrong trail at trail intersections. We used Garmin's Explore app to navigate the biking trails and it worked really well. (A link with the GPS coordinates will be provided by the touring company.) On a related note, Google Maps worked much better in Europe than Apple's Maps app when walking around towns and villages.

The paper maps provided by the touring company are nearly impossible to follow while riding but they do have a benefit. The night before each day's ride--after studying the map--we would make notes indicating the distance to select villages, bridges, lakes, and intersections, etc. (The maps provide these distances.) Our notes then served as our sign posts ensuring that were were on the correct road or trail during the next day's ride, and also plan our lunch stops.

Though this was not explained in any of the literature I read, at every hotel we stayed we were given a two day "summer card" ("Sommerkarte") free of charge. (We did have to ask for it at one hotel.) These cards are incredible deals. They allow for FREE transportation on local and regional buses and trains, and also provide free admission to select museums, free rides on the Schmittenhohe Cable Cars in Zell am See, and free access to the water falls in Krimml. Not sure why an explanation of this tremendous benefit was not provided.

Just for clarification, the "taxi" that you catch at the train station in Zell am Ziller is a large passenger van pulling a trailer. Your bikes are loaded into the trailer and then everyone piles into the van for a breathtaking 45-minute ride to Krimml. (Your luggage will be in the van as well.) By the way, the bike ride to Zell am Ziller is less than 15 miles and the village is beautiful so I would recommend getting there before noon and then having lunch at one of the restaurants along the river before catching your "taxi" to Krimml that afternoon.

    Our favorite activities:
Schmittenhohe Cable Cars in Zell am See- Use your summer card to catch the bus to the cable car facility and then ride to the top of the mountains where you can hike trails and have lunch. The views from the mountain tops are stunning.
Water Fall at Krimml- Again, use your summer card to access that water fall. You can walk up to the base of the waterfall and/or walk up the trail that leads to the top of the falls. There are lookouts about every 200 feet of elevation gain.
The Schloss Tratzberg Castle in Jenbach- It's probably a 10-mile detour on your first day, and somewhat expensive (summer cards do not work there), but well worth it. I believe this is one of the best preserved castles in the world. The current owner of the castle accompanied our tour (we were the last tour of the day) and he embellished much of the narrative provided by our guide.
The Family Gundolf Dinner Show in Innsbruck- A quirky Austrian variety show that includes dinner and a beer. It's kind of a Lawrence Welk meets Hee-Haw fusion for those old enough to remember those programs.
Salzburg- I only mention it because the reviews I read of Salzburg before our trip suggested it was kind of a one-dimensional city. ("Sound of Music.") It was much nicer than I anticipated with many shops, delicious restaurants, and one fascinating "speak easy" bar called Burdoch's Punch and Cocktails. At Burdoch's, you tell the bartender the name of a drink you like and then she creates a similar alternative using all sorts of random ingredients. I like "French 75's"; she made me something that was even better. The bartender and waiters were also excellent conversationalists.  SHOW MORE

    Most epic trip!!

    Cycling the West Balkan Triangle

This vacation/bike tour was one for the books! We wouldn’t change a thing and would like to take the tour again. The 6 day bike ride was no easy feat but it was manageable (especially with 2 14-year old boys). Our bike guide, Igor was very knowledgeable of the history and sights/cities we visited. Mario was an amazing SAG driver and prepared quite a lovely daily lunch spread!! Loved all the rest stops and hotels we stayed at. Can’t wait to take another tour with BikeTours!!

    Adventure of a lifetime!

Amsterdam – Bruges by Bike and Boat – Princesse Royal

Everything could not have been better. The small group(30)was just right for riding and for socializing on the boat. The staff were so helpful and friendly. We had an excellent guide whose pride in his country and knowledge of history shone through.
The bike routes and stops for lunch and for evening walks were idyllic. The bikes were well maintained and comfortable to ride. Coming to the boat for a first class meal at the end of the day, was a delight.

    Very fun and efficient.

    Welcome to Tallinn Bike Tour

Amazing tour. Very efficient. The reach bike is given on a short trip is just unbeatable. The tour covered all of the monuments we expected to see and more. Enough time to observe, read and talk about the history of each monument. Joe our guide was amazing !! I recommended him highly.

    Loving Italy!

Dolomites to Venice Along the Old Dolomites Railway Track

We just finished this tour and it was amazing! My husband and I rode it with our two teenage daughters. It was the perfect level for all of us- not too difficult, but had some challenges. We loved the quaint Italian mountain towns. We rode on roads that the Giro d'Italia had done the week before. We bought cherries from an orchard that was right on our route. we had cappuccinos and gelato everyday! It was truly a wonderful experience!

    A wonderful experience

Dolomites to Venice Along the Old Dolomites Railway Track

Our tour was self guided but we were fortunate to meet two other couples with similar biking abilities on the same tour. We had mixed weather so we missed some of the beautiful vistas in the mountains. The accommodations were great for the most part and the breakfasts were amazing! Everything from bacon and eggs to croissants, meats, cheeses, fruit, cereal and all sorts of sweet treats. The navigation was not always straightforward as the signal was poor in many places. Only one of our group experienced a flat tire, which was temporarily fixed and the tube replaced the next day. Our bikes were comfortable and easy to operate. All in all a fantastic experience.
