We decided to try this tour as a way to see the countryside of Portugal, and it was a great success. We did the self-guided tour, so could stop where and when we wanted, and could set our own pace. We saw so many beautiful places that we never would've seen if we'd rented a car and figured out our own route.
The routes were well curated, avoiding busy roads and difficult trails for the most part, and fit our abilities well. I used a hybrid bike for the low gearing (some of the climbs were steep, and I used the bike's lowest gears), and my wife used an e-bike. The e-bike was geared well for the climbs, and although we were initially worried about running low on battery, she always finished the day with plenty of power to spare.
Our first two riding days were in a moderate steady rain. We had decent rain gear and both bikes had fenders, so we stayed dry and warm enough. We did the hybrid trail the first day, but switched to the paved version on the second because of the rain making the trails too muddy. I'd recommend just doing the paved version on any day with much rain.
We took this ride the beginning of November. The temperatures were pleasant, but the days were short. We stopped where we wanted, looked at lots of interesting scenery and views, and visited off-the-beaten-path locations, but generally arrived at our destination near sundown. We were happy we added a free day for sightseeing in Sintra, and in retrospect, probably should've done the same in Obidos.
We had an excellent trip, highly recommended!

We had a well planned route, with marked maps, written details, and GPS all to support us. The route ensured minimal interaction with vehicles. The accommodation were wonderful and the bag transport worked flawlessly. I will be booking more tours in the future!

Very nice self-guided tour of the Alentejo region. Very good hotels and itinerary, decent bikes, good support from the tour company. We went in October 2024 and it was a bit wet.

Very enjoyable trip

Coastal Portugal

The tour was amazing. They’re definitely worth some heels, but the bikes made it a little bit easier. Scenery was very nice. Only occasionally did we have to ride close to traffic on the roads. The bike trails were great.

This was a great tour! Our guide Matilda was very accomodating & fun & knowledgable about the history of Portugal. We saw the waterfront & the old town with narrow winding streets and the city center. The bikes were powerful. A great way to spend the morning!

A Sometimes Rugged Ride
· Algarve Coastal Route
Perfect organization for hotel pickup, delivering us to the start point, bike setup, luggage transportation, return to hotel at the finish, and transportation to the train station the next day.
We found some parts of the route in more rural areas were rough trails with hills too steep to climb on regular bikes. Too bad there isn’t a developed network of bike paths along the coast. Saw lots of wonderful scenery, though, and happened upon som great coffee and lunch stops. We did have a couple of times where we had trouble following the Garmins.- Countries included in this tour?

The e-bikes were of superb quality with 650W Bosch batteries . We only used 1/3 of battery power . The distance per day was not too much which left us time to head back to the hotel and spend the afternoons at the pool or sight seeing. Cycling on rural quiet roads in Portugal ,going through very small villages . The GPS app worked well . The transfers of luggage to hotels was great . It was a trip to cherish forever

A great time in Alentejo

A great self guided tour in Alentejo region of Portugal.
Great e-bikes, accommodation in the pousadas and excellent restaurant recommendations from our guides, and were brilliant making reservations in the restaurants we chose. The staff were on the whole very friendly and helpful and accommodated our extraordinary request on the last day - thank you.
The only reason they didn’t receive 5 stars for us was we thought the farmhouse stay for 2 nights was not necessary, and the owner of the business perhaps shouldn’t front the customers/clients. A tad too direct in her manner which made us feel we were doing her a favour by being there!

The trip was very well organized. The gps routes were spot on. Lots of turns in a few areas but that’s a small price to pay to stay off main roads.
Paul (our local tour representative) was excellent. His pickup, drop off and bike setup and sizing were efficient and timely. His instructions, recommendations and advice were indispensable. And a fun guy!
So a great ride, seeing small towns and countryside at a relaxing pace. The hotels were all wonderful with very good breakfasts. Our only regret was not having opted for an extra night in Óbidos and Sintra. But we didn’t know that until we were already in the towns.- What was the date of your tour?
