Peaceful Mosel
Mosel Bike Path: Dreamy Mosel Valley from Trier to Koblenz
Riding along the Mosel was peaceful, beautiful, and fascinating. To see the ingenuity, commitment, and caring of vineyards on the steep inclines of the bluffs along the Mosel created amazement and interest. The trail at time were easy enough to allow a lot of gazing. However, there were also paths with surprises, i.e. blind turns that suddenly led to a steep incline, rather narrow paths along side the road, and sometimes narrow gravel paths. But, some of that, I guess, can be expected. We did have trouble downloading the navigation system and called Pedalo Company for help. Johannas came to the rescue, but with much effort to get us setup. We were very pleased with all the hotels except for our last one, Mecure Hotel in Koblenz, it was adequate, but we were quite spoiled by the others and the standard was not quite as high as the previous ones. A bigger problem at the Mecure was their inadequate bike storage, i.e. the bike cage had no electrical outlets for eBikes, so, the hotel had to store the bikes in a different area until charged and we could only charge one at a time. Upon the completion of charging, we had to take the bikes down to the bike cage. Another problem with the Pedalo agenda was the wine tasting. There was little help in telling us if we could bike or walk there, it was difficult to find, and the tour guide of the tasting said she would translate her 45 min. presentation in English now and then, but failed to. I was able, with my limited German, to understand most of it, but my friend was unable to and was, therefore, left out of the information. The wine we tasted was excellent, however! FYI, at Hotel Kessler Meyer in Cochem, do not trust google maps to get you to the hotel. It takes you to a dead end after a very steep street incline. Call the hotel for an easier way. In spite of those concerns, the trip down the Mosel was beautiful and overall thoroughly enjoyed.

An unforgettable bike trip through Czechia and Austria
Prague to Vienna via Cesky Krumlov
We had such a wonderful experience on this trip. Riding from Prague through the Czech countryside, along the former Iron Curtain, through wine country, and eventually into Austria was an incredible way to see this part of Europe.
The route was beautiful and gave us a mix of history, small villages, castles, countryside, and places we never would have experienced traveling by car. We especially loved having the freedom to ride at our own pace and explore along the way.
Communication and organization were very good, and when we needed help, we felt supported. Our bikes worked well and the daily routes were manageable while still feeling like a real adventure.
Some of the accommodations were definitely more basic than others, and there were a few we would not choose again, but overall that didn’t take away from how special the trip was.
This ended up being one of those trips we’ll talk about for years. If you enjoy cycling, history, beautiful countryside, and traveling a little differently, I would absolutely recommend it.

Amazing fun family trip
Lake Constance Bicycle Path
Wife and I went with two teenagers. We all enjoy physical activity and seeing new things. This was a wonderful fit for us. We really enjoyed the biking and exercise and getting to our next hotel and town to enjoy amazing accommodations and sites. We (me) opted for going old school without e-bikes, foot power only. It all worked out but there are some hills and a few steep inclines along the way and one or two days of longer miles. Paying extra for the e-bike would have been good in hindsight, at least for my wife. It allows you some more time at sites along the way or at destination town to explore.

Prague to Vienna via Cesky Krumlov
The small towns in the Czech Republic were beautiful. This tour was a great way to experience them. We had e-bikes and the milage was very enjoyable. Many sections of the ride were through forests.

Lake Bike Tour
Lake Constance Bicycle Path
The tour was very well organized. The lake was very low due to a lack of rain, so probably not as scenic as it would otherwise have been. The hotels in Switzerland were very pedestrian and should definitely be upgraded. Also, the bags didnt always arrive timely when we got to the hotels in the afternoons. Apart from that, we enjoyed the trip and it went very smoothly.

Enjoyable, but not one of the best
Lake Constance Bicycle Path
This was our 8th or 9th bike tour in Europe, most booked thru Biketours.com. They always do a great job with a a shout out to Taylor, who is asked responsive. We enjoyed the tour, but compared to others, It fella bit flat in some areas. Lake Constance was beautiful, hotels (category K) were great, but the paths were not as interesting as we’ve experienced on other tours. Although we had nice views of the lake most of the time, some of the paths were they more industrial zones and railroad tracks. Not bad, but not 5 star.

Mosel - wine wine everywhere whine!!!
Mosel Bike Path: Dreamy Mosel Valley from Trier to Koblenz
Beautiful weather and scenery, great hotels (4-5 star by European standards, riesling wine fields nonstop for 5 days. Berg Eltz Castle worth the effort and cost. Had a few "hiccups" from the Pedalo folks, but BikeTours came to the rescue. We first attempted this trip as our first BikeTours trip almost 11 years ago. However, we were late to the party and everything was booked for the time period we chose. So we finally made Too many positive things say about this trip. Just do it!!!!

Joyful cycling and great views
Innsbruck to Salzburg: Through the Alps Along River Cycle Trails
One of the surprising bonuses of this trip was getting a feel for Austrian country life. The landscapes we cycled through had plenty of stellar views. But they also felt authentic in the sense that we were sharing space with rural working families and close-knit communities. Austrians in this region appear to be masters at integrating country roads, cycle paths, rivers, agricultural fields, lumber yards, clusters of rural homes, town centers (with the iconic long-steepled church), parks and other family-friendly spaces – all not far from a view of the Alps. The extra side trips to Krimmerl Falls, Lamprechtshöhle Cave and Seisenbergklamm and Vorderkaserklamm Gorges were especially worthwhile. (After quite a bit of puzzled searching, we realized it would have been helpful to have better directions to Seisenbergklamm.)
Generally we stayed on track with the GPX file maps mounted on our handlebars; occasionally a combo of other navigational tools came in handy: Google Maps, asking for directions, and/or trying to use the very detailed booklet with hardcopy maps and written directions, although this latter was not handy to do as we were cycling.
Also, it would have been super helpful to know beforehand that we needed to choose and upload a phone app that is able to read the GPX files – and then to more efficiently get the maps uploaded to our phone. (Three years ago, BikeTours simply gave us a link to the map files, so this new routine was unfamiliar to us, and we spent too much time in our Innsbruck hotel trying to figure it out.)
The only day that we were thrown royally off schedule was the very first cycling day. We ended up following the GPX map to the very end destination, which took us many kilometers past our target hotel, some of it up a steep mountain, only to find out that our lodging was not there at all. We had to backtrack a long ways. When we called the local guide to ask about this (not wanting to repeat the experience on subsequent days), he mentioned that we needed to pay attention to the booklet directions. There was a note in there about some of the lodging destinations coming before the end of the given day’s GPX route. However, many of the BikeTours reviews for this tour gave the advice to use the GPX directions rather than the guidebook because they are much easier to follow while cycling. We agree.
In the future, it would be handy to have a separate, clearly-worded, simpler document for each day that gives a good overview (clearer than in the booklet) and that offers reminders about what to expect that day. For ex., “Today you have the option to visit … Here are some pointers for locating these optional destinations … Be aware that your lodging may come well before the end of the GPS route; you may want to enter your lodging address into Google Maps to determine where your end point for the route is today. Etc.) SHOW MORE
Luggage transfer was always well-organized and all of the accommodations were pleasant, except at Hotel Zillertal. Beautiful views from the lodging, but the staff seemed overworked. (For ex., one individual was manning the restaurant, bar, cash register, and front desk check-in, and he was understandably exhausted and done with tourists.) In contrast, we especially remember the family-run Gästehaus Waltl, where we were welcomed with such genuine kindness and generosity.
We were glad for the layover day. Zell am See felt a bit too upscale touristy for our taste, and we maybe would have preferred one of the smaller towns in the area for our rest day. But the activity options still make it a logical location for most people.
We very much enjoyed exploring both Innsbruck and Salzburg on each end of the trip. The young woman who set up our bike rental in Innsbruck was super helpful and patient. She familiarized us with the equipment and supplied us with some extra tools such as the phone attachment for the handlebar.
After the tour, we rented a car to explore the Salzkammergut Lake District for a couple of days, just outside of Salzburg. Beautiful! Side note: We were scammed in a major way by Sixt Rent-a-Car after we returned our rental, so we would recommend looking at other rental options. (You can see more details, if desired, in our Google review for Sixt in Salzburg.)
This was our second self-guided tour with BikeTours, where I rented an e-bike (I like to stop and take photos) and my cyclist husband rented a regular road bike. This arrangement works well for us. We are both active in our sixth decade, and this tour was a good blend of cultural exploration, wholesome exercise, and memorable views. As was the case on our cycling tour three years ago, we leave with tremendous respect for the countries who provide safe and (very often) scenic trails, roadway passage, and clear signage for cyclists.

Castles and Wine E-Bike Adventure!
Castles and Wines of Portugal
Two couples, seniors, very experienced road bike riders, taking on the six day self-guided Castles and Wine Portugal Tour route in late September 2026. For some, this was their first experience with ebikes. The weather was perfect the whole time and the towns had an uncrowded off-season feel to them, which suited us fine.
The bikes: Rating: A
We were all issued some configuration of the Cube Touring Hybrid One. Loved these bikes! They were our trusty work horses for the week. No mechanical issues, comfortable seats, so much battery that you could ride in sport and turbo mode as much as you like without concern of running out of battery. The step-through design on these models helped with sudden dismounts while riding a 50+ lb e-bike. Even our least experienced e-bike riders were able to rocket up the rugged 15-20 percent cobbled approaches to the castles without worry! The integrated rear racks held a roomy bag supplied with chargers, tools, tubes, with room for extra clothes and snacks. The App: Rating: B-
We were supplied with access to the Roadbook for Discovery app for our phones, which included day-by-day routing with points of interest noted along the way. All day use (recommended) of the app requires a backup phone charger (you supply). They had rubber handlebar phone mounts for your ebike, which were a bit of a hassle to get your phone in and out of to take photos. Would have liked a better bar-mounted quick release method. With two of us running the app concurrently, we had a couple of instances where one phone said “off course” and the other did not. We had also asked the biketours.com people for the GPX files in advance to run our own software (Wahoo, Garmin, Ride w GPS), but one of the GPX routes supplied before the first day was the wrong map and got us temporarily lost on private property. Better to stick with the Discovery app which was the “official” version of the tour, use your Garmins and Wahoos for recording the rides only. Other than that, the Discovery app got us from place to place well enough, just remember to carry extra battery chargers!Accomodations: Rating B+
All accommodations were welcome sights for us weary old riders. That said, Most Favorite: Mar de Ar Muralhas, Evora (2 nights). Good storage and recharge room for bikes, poolside food and drink served, walk to excellent restaurants. Close second: Pusada de Estremoz, Estremoz. Least Favorite: Hotel Solar do Alqueva, Reguengos de Monsaraz. Nothing was wrong with the hotel, service was good, adequate breakfast, just a small economy hotel compared with nicer places on the tour.Support: Rating B
Staff for Tours Portugal were available for our questions through the What’sap. Didn’t need them for any mission critical issue other than the first day’s issue with getting on the right route group. SHOW MOREOverall: Rating B+

This was our first self-directed bike tour and six days was a lot of riding, would have preferred 4-5 days if available. That said, we loved the spirit of adventure as we set out each morning to the beautiful countryside and the megaliths, black pigs, ancient castles and wineries. I have done European cycle tours on road bikes in the past but now favor ebikes as they accommodate all levels of riders as a group.- Countries included in this tour?
