    A great experience

    · Emerald Tour of Slovenia’s Gems

This was an unguided town-to-town bike trip, 6 days, from Ljubljana to Piran. I rented a (non-electric) bike.

The bike (Trek FX2 gravel bike) was good, and fit me well. The rear derailleur was a bit out of alignment. They give you a spare tube and some tools, which I didn't need.

The nav was pretty easy. You get a nav app (Guibo) that has some glitches but works OK. There are little arrow stickers along the way that confirm the directions, but don't replace the app

The route was about 50% roads with fast cars and no shoulder, 30% paved village roads with few cars, 10% bike paths, and 10% gravel farm roads. This was more cars than I would have liked, but the tour has to work with what's there.

The hotels were all excellent - generally the best available place in each town.

The towns, and the associated attractions (castles, caves etc.) were great.

The rides were moderate - 20-30 miles each day, some elevation gains. Day 2 gained 2000' and was a little hard. They generally took ~3 hours including breaks. Take your time, otherwise you might arrive too early to check in.

In summary: a very well-planned and well-organized tour. I had a great time, and would definitely consider doing another tour with this company. Also, I thought the price was quite reasonable.

    Lovely landscapes, great organization

    · Prague to Dresden Along the Vltava & Elbe Rivers

    Great bike tour!
Overall: most of the ride (80%-90%) was on dedicated bike lanes, following the Voltava/Elbe rivers. Mainly flat, well signaled - generally an easy ride.

Itinerary: I especially enjoyed the route around Prague at the beginning (good lanes, lots of bars/cafes on the side) and, more importantly, the last 2 days, from Decin to Dresden as the path goes through more mountainous areas but stays flat and easy as it follows the river. Great views with cute hills, chalets and the cliffs of the Swiss Saxony park.
I also appreciated that the hotel in day 4 was in Bad Schandau (instead of Pirna like other similar tours) as it allowed me to do hikes in Day 4 (between Decin and Bad Schandau) AND in Day 5 (between Bad Schandau and Dresden). Spending the night in Pirna (lovely city, by the way) means that by end of Day 4, you are out of the national park and therefore all the hikes, and believe me there are many opportunities, would have to be concentrated in Day 4. So, happy that the tour stopped in Bad Schandau instead
Day 2 (Melnik-Litomerice) was maybe the least interesting. Both cities are really cute, but in between, it is mainly fields and light forest landscapes.
I was able to get by in English everywhere. Got a bit more difficult in the middle of the tour, deep in Czechia (Litomerice for instance) but communication is always possible, especially with the help of translating apps.

Organization: perfect. The bike was high quality. All the equipment was provided: lock, carrier bags (waterproof), bike helmet, full file with maps and all the places to go to / eat in along the way, useful navigation app, etc. Basically, I didn't have to use any of my equipment except cycling glasses

Accommodation: choice of cities to sleep along the way is optimal. All of them cute, with enough historical buildings to visit. Cadencing also good with 50-55 kms each day, except for day 4 (25 kms) which is when you want to do most of the hiking anyway, so it is good that it is the shortest cycling day. Bad Schandau is not super interesting to be honest (certainly less than Pirna) but as mentioned above, it is still optimal to stop there to enjy the park. Hotels were great, in very diverse styles, with maybe the one in Decin less nice but the town is really busy with lots of tourists and not too many hotels. Breakfast provided in all of them, with good quality and quantity (with again the one in Decin slightly below).

All in all, very happy with the trip and its organization and would definitely do it again!

    Fabulous, scenic odyssey

    · Emerald Tour of Slovenia’s Gems

What a wonderful journey! The scenery was spectacular as we biked through rolling hills, quaint villages, and especially as we arrived at the Adriatic Sea. A few days consisted of biking up and down some fairly significant hills, so get an e-bike if you aren’t in shape for biking uphill, which we thought we were but we underestimated how challenging the hills would be. The route includes several gravel roads but the bikes handled the bumps just fine. Slovenian drivers seemed very accustomed to sharing the road with cyclists and were quite respectful. Almost all of the roads that we biked on were sparsely traveled. The hotels were nice and they all had good hearty breakfasts for us to stoke up on before our rides. The tour company was responsive and we appreciated having our luggage delivered to our destination each day. Slovenia is a beautiful country inhabited by welcoming, friendly people. We loved it!

    Amazing cycling in Romania

    · Medieval Transylvania Heritage

I cycled the Medieval Transylvania route solo with the support of local tour operator. I booked at very short notice but everything was perfectly organised. Great welcome, comprehensive travel notes and verbal information and a great Canondale bike (well serviced, all spares available and cycle panniers supplied). The daily routes (with accurate GPX files) were interesting and with diverse scenery. The routes were mainly on small quiet roads with only a few stretches of busier roads. Trip notes highlighted good places to stop for cultural visits, lunch and dinner. Oana helped book ahead at 2 places for lunch, which was greatly appreciated. The accommodation was fantastic (never been on a cycle holiday with such amazing accommodation before) - in castles and guesthouses. The proprietors were all kind, helpful and keen to explain the local history. Baggage transfer was efficient and easy. I've done many cycle holidays (in groups and solo) but this is one of the best! Definitely plan to go back to Romania for further cycle adventures. Thank you so much - especially to Oana who was amazing.

    Bicycle paths of the Dolomites

    · Bicycle Paths of the Dolomites (based in one hotel)

This was a great trip for our family of four to explore a beautiful area. The hotel was very comfortable and the included food was excellent. The local tour company was very helpful, although it was a little confusing to follow their paperwork so make sure to meet with them directly before you starts to confirm routes and days for transfers. It would also be helpful to check with the bike company to see if there are any route closures or events that may interfere with your trip. We had a large bike race which closed one of our trails one day which we didn’t know about and had to ride on the road and another day had a partial path closure of unknown reason. This could hav easily been avoided if the bike company had shared this information. The bikes were great but you may have to be proactive/assertive to determine details of route changes. All in all we really enjoyed our trip.

    · Highlights of Gozo E-Bike Tour

This was by far the best activity on Gozo. We had an active immersive experience and managed to see historic landmarks we would otherwise not have known about. The e-bikes were comfortable and well maintained and our tour guide was fabulous; both professional and friendly. Could not rate this high enough.

    Superou as expectativas!

    · · Danube Discovery: Bike and Boat through Enchanting Capitals

    A lovely experience

    · Strasbourg to Mainz: Imperial Cities and Charming Landscapes Along the Rhine

The cycle was a great experience we cycled on gravel routes and centuries old cobbles one more thing off our to do list. The towns we passed through were lovely. Some exquisite old buildings sights i will never forget. We did have a little panic one day. When we got to the ferry it wasn't crossing on the day. We did have an alternative route but about 5 or 6 k into that route there was roadworks so we were diverted off our diversion route. For awhile we got completely lost. Luckily we met a local couple out cycling who cycled with us to the bridge we were looking for..I have to mention that all the locals all along the way were friendly and helpful when needed. Yes I would recommend this cycling trip to anyone who would like to experience something slightly different from your normal cycling trip

    Fantastic trip with the family!!!

    · Danube Family Tour 7 Nights

This was a great way for the our kids & grandkids to see the Danube River and learn about European history. The hotels were all very nice and well located in the towns. The segment distances were very good for the children ages 7, 10, & 12. The 7 year old was on the tow behind with Dad so those distances were good for him too. There were numerous places to stop and rest along the way which was nice. The luggage transfer was great and our luggage almost always arrived before we did.

We were 7 in total and it was an amazing trip to be together.

We arrived in Linz early and spent most of an afternoon at the ARS Electronic Center and the kids really enjoyed that.
The weather was all over the place cool the first two days and then it changed to very warm so be prepared for weather changes along the way.

    Great ride

    · New York Highlights Bike Tour

What a ride! Honestly, this NYC bike tour was one of the best ways I’ve ever seen the city. The bikes were solid but easy to handle, light enough to cruise without feeling like you’re dragging an anchor. We zipped through some of the city’s big hitters—Wall Street all shiny and buzzing, pedaled under the Brooklyn Bridge with that unbeatable skyline view, wound our way through Chinatown and Little Italy where the smells alone could knock you out. Got to wander around Union Square, drift through the charm of Greenwich Village, cut across SoHo, and even check out Little Island, which felt like a floating park dream. Riding along the brand‑new bike lane on 12th Ave? Smooth, wide, pure joy. Plenty of stops, plenty of time to look around… it felt like NYC rolled out a red carpet just for our bike

  • Mosel Bike Path
    (5/5) Patrick M 2 weeks ago

    Great experience

    · Mosel Bike Path: Dreamy Mosel Valley from Trier to Koblenz

TL;DR summary - We had a great time and didn't realize biking the Mosel Valley was a bucket-list sort of vacation until we did it. One other item I would note is that this tour is listed as "family-friendly", but it's really geared to adults only.

The longer version - Overall, we had an excellent experience. I personally found the bike riding from the industrial area outside of Trier to Cochem as some of the most enjoyable bike riding I've done in my life. We generally stuck to the path near the Mosel and had lots of opportunities to enjoy small towns, get off the beaten path to hike/bike climb to beautiful views, and enjoy the scenery of the vineyards and hills around the Mosel. If I have the opportunity to bike around this area again, I'd jump at it.

The local tour operator was great. We had some issues on the road, and they were able to help us out including bringing a replacement bike and driving people from one stop to the next. They went above and beyond in my expectations.

I feel like there were some communication breakdowns between BikeTours and the local operator/hotel/vineyard that caused us some unneeded stress and center around having two kids as part of the biking party.
    1. We were provided a biking option that didn't work - Prior to booking with BikeTours, I inquired about options for my 8 year-old daughter since this tour was labeled as "family friendly". BikeTours offered a Follow-me as the only option beyond a regular bike (a tandem and Tag-along were not options). I have one, and it worked well on other bike rides with my daughter when she was a little smaller so I was fine with it. When I followed up a couple weeks prior to the trip, BikeTours didn't have a Follow-me booked. I had to find the old email thread and send it over to BikeTours to show them what we had agreed to prior to the booking. Upon our arrival in Trier, the local tour operator had the Follow-me set up but seemed skeptical that it would work very well. They were right as the amount of weight on the back tire and back bike were too heavy to keep the bikes stable. My daughter ended up biking all by herself, and we never used the Follow-me. It would have been much better if we could have spoken with the local operator directly since they own the bikes to understand our options. BikeTours was a complicating and unnecessary middle-man.
    2. We were booked at an Adults-only hotel. As best as I have been able to figure out, we booked this trip prior to an updated contract between the hotel and operator. I'm guessing the hotel changed over to adults-only recently but BikeTours did not communicate ages of my party to the hotel. The hotel was very accommodating and let us stay, but it was definitely awkward.
    3. My two kids were booked for wine-tasting - again, the vineyard was accommodating and pulled out a couple grape juices for my kids to try, but it was definitely geared for adults.  SHOW MORE

    What a beautiful country

    · National Parks, Lakes & Canyons of Montenegro

Overall, it was a memorable experience, especially due to the stunning nature and dramatic landscapes — Montenegro's mountains, lakes, and scenery were absolutely breathtaking and made the trip truly special. Such a beautiful country!

We had quality road bikes which was essential for this tour. The daily distances ranged from 50 to 70 km, with significant ascents most days. Without proper road bikes, the climbs would have been very demanding (maybe too demanding) so we were glad we had the right equipment.

However, there were some aspects that didn’t match our expectations. The tour description indicated that we would mostly cycle on small roads and old railway tracks. In reality, a substantial portion of the route was on main roads with fairly heavy traffic. This was disappointing and at times felt unsafe — not what we had expected or been led to believe. This is something that should be clarified more accurately in the tour information.

Additionally, we encountered a few tunnels along the way, which added to our concerns about safety. The bikes were not equipped with lights or reflectors, making visibility poor both for us and for passing vehicles. Navigating through dark tunnels without proper lighting was uncomfortable and could be dangerous.

As for accommodation, it was mostly good, and in some cases exceeded expectations. While the tour was advertised as offering 3-star hotels, a few nights were spent in apartments without breakfast served at the location. This made our mornings a bit more complicated and delayed our starts, as we had to go to the restaurant and make the orders and wait for the food before setting off. Still, some of the places we stayed in were excellent, even better than the standard 3-star hotels.

A major positive was our tour guide. He was always available, helpful, and gave us valuable briefings about road conditions and daily routes. When bad weather hit, he quickly arranged car transport for us, which was much appreciated.

In summary, Montenegro is a fantastic cycling destination for nature lovers and strong riders. The organization had many good points — especially the bikes and the guide — but there’s room for improvement in terms of route planning, safety gear, and clear communication. With a few adjustments, this could be a top-notch tour.
