    Fascinating Tour in Northern Germany

Northern German Odyssey: Bike, Barge and Cruise

This was a fascinating overview of eastern Germany, with the addition of a couple days in Poland, where we learned so much about the GDR era. The Merlijn is a beautiful ship, and the crew catered to all of our needs. The guide was an upbeat, knowledgeable Dutch woman who kept us laughing. The bicycles were perfect for the job. And the meals were heavenly!

The best boat of any bike and boat tour I have bookd via biketours.com

Northern German Odyssey: Bike, Barge and Cruise

Mainly a tour of the countryside of northeastern Germany. The boat was built about 100 years ago. It is evident that the boat has been totally remodeled. The cabins are very large with lots of open space. The bathroom was about the same size as on other boats. The food was well above average for bike tours I have taken in the past. The bikes used appeared to be new for the current season but were a bit on the heavy side. The bike route part of the trip contained more sections with pebble or uneven stone pavement surfaces than expected.

    Berlin-Copenhagen early June 2026

    Berlin – Copenhagen

We had a great trip! We were on the self-guided route. We met other international cyclists riding the same timeframe and it was nice to chat with them in the AM at breakfast. The weather was cooler and predicted to rain but it was cool overcast. The hotels were great and the luggage arrived early afternoon which made it nice for relaxing and getting ready for dinner! We did have some strong wind and most of the women we met on the trip had electric bikes. I didnt and made it work, but for longer distances and seeing all the sights it would be recommended! Downloading the app made it easy to follow the route and bike paths the entire way into Copenhagen made it safe for cycling.

Great but we wish we controlled the weather😀

    Berlin – Copenhagen

It really was an excellent tour. Between the GPS file and the maps, navigation was pretty easy. Despite having to back track once for a total of 5 Kms, the cycling was straight forward, the scenery varied and pretty with so many flowers in bloom.

Generally, distances were good but our longest day, the last, 90 plus kms, had the most things to stop and see and we missed out on a couple castles etc. This after already taking the shorter less scenic route. Rødvig to Copenhagen, in our opinion needs rethinking.

We used the company’s standard touring bikes. We are both in our late 60’s and we found them reliable and rolled along at a 20 kph pace very nicely.

Hotels were all good, however, location choice were not always great. For instances, Stege the hotel was 6 kilometres past the town in the middle of an area of no services, costing riders 12 extra kms. Also the hotel in Copenhagen was a 50 minute ride from the time you entered the city to the far side of the city. This again was our longest riding day, and though it was relatively easy city riding, the time constraint of the day was a little frustrating (8 am start-7 pm finish at hotel).

We would highly recommend this tour and loved the city of Rostock, hotel at the brick factory, loads of history and farming, and seeing so many small towns along the way. In addition, you have the option to go off course and discover even more cool areas with limited extra distance.

    Tour to remember

    Berlin – Copenhagen

This trip delivered on every level I was looking for. The route, the distance to ride on each leg, the hotels and towns stopping at each leg all excellent. The people on the tour were fun and the people I met along the way were also helpful and friendly. The route notes and maps were good and the bike was also just right for me. So happy I took this tour.

Best way to learn and explore!

    Berlin – Copenhagen

Traveling by e-bike through Germany and Denmark was the best way for us to travel. We are in our 70's and seldom cycle at home but having dedicated cycle paths and quiet roads with very understanding drivers makes this type of travel perfect. The huge expanses of agricultural fields, forests and waterways made cycling relaxing and a joy to see. The majority of accommodations were steeped in history and nearby historic sites.

    great trip

    Berlin – Copenhagen

The Berlin to Copenhagen route is beautiful, well marked, and was a delight the whole way. The hotels were superb. The company provided excellent service throughout. Bikes were stout German made hybrids, nothing fancy, but well maintained and up to the task. We did one long day of about 70 miles instead of taking a train, but this ride was scenic and with planned rest stops went just fine. The other groups on the tour were from Switzerland, Italy and France, and all were friendly and fun to connect with along the way. We all loved the tour. Of note, one of our group rode an ebike which was perfect to compensate for no training prior to trip.

A wonderful – easy bicycle tour

    Berlin – Copenhagen

This tour through northern Germany and into Denmark allows one to discover the comfort of bicycle travel in countries that support bicycling. The bicycles supplied by Mecklenburger Radtour were comfortable and perfect for all the surface conditions we encountered as we traveled through towns, many parks and nature areas, agricultural regions and coastal plains on our way between Berlin and Copenhagen. The maps and cue sheets as well as the additional information supplied by the company were complete and well thought out. Our lodging ranged from very comfortable to fantastic and always included bountiful breakfasts. The route was well planned and signed to show us much of the natural beauty along the way and to allow us to learn more of the cultural and natural history of the region. Much of the route was on dedicated bicycle trails through the many parks, forests and natural areas.

The overall experience was very good. Only disappointment was with the material provided. The highlights and descriptions of what to look for along the route were only provided in German. We were a group of 6 Canadians so were at a distinct disadvantage.

    Loved it!

    Berlin – Copenhagen

A great trip to get the flavor of both Germany and Denmark (it was fun to observe the differences). Each day you wake up to a great buffet breakfast and then cycle all day - and I do mean all day. If, like me, you are not a strong cyclist, you will find it challenging. Stronger cyclists (and people who get up earlier than 8 am) may find more time to stop and see things along the way, but for us, there was little time to linger. The actual mileage (the bikes had odometers) was about 10 km longer (each day) than listed. We rode until around 4pm (with occasional stops) and then relaxed at the hotel a bit before exploring the town and going for dinner. I think the trip is great for people who really want an active vacation. With the exception of 2 of the hotels in Germany, we loved the accommodations. The tour was very well organized both with the local tour company and Bike Tours.com (who were very
helpful when booking). Traveling like this is so much more fun than the conventional way. We loved biking through the tiny towns, quiet woods and farmlands.

    Excellent family tour

    Berlin – Copenhagen

Our family of 4 just returned from an excellent 11 night, 10 day self-guided ride from Berlin to Copenhagen. We found the Mecklenburg Radtour company to be extremely well organized, have good equipment and would recommend anyone interested in a great, active holiday to give this a try! This was our first experience with Biketours.com, but we met 4-5 groups of bikers who had done multiple trips with other outfitters who felt this was particularly well organized. The hotels ranged from fine to excellent, and all had terrific breakfasts! The majority of the 400 miles was on well maintained paths and roads with only a few difficult areas.

    Could be better

    Berlin – Copenhagen

Overall this was an amazing trip. However, there were some frustrating aspects as follows:
    1. Route instructions were terrible. I stopped getting lost once I downloaded and used the GPS routes
    2. I missed many sites of interest as the layout of the guidebook was pretty awful as well. For example, descriptions of sites of interest were several pages before or after the maps of specific towns. The company would benefit from starting over with their guidebooks and find a user experience expert to change layout.
    3. Most lodging ranged from good to very good. However, several were either too far from town to find a decent place to eat, or more importantly very noisy making a restful night next to impossible. This factor of itself was enough to consider whether I would recommend this trip.
    4. The last day was not an unpleasant way to end the trip given I had the choice of over 100 km or ride next to a busy highway for most of the day. The end point could be better through through.
