Great trip
Berlin – Copenhagen
We enjoyed the trip very much. There were more opportunities to meet other riders than on our other trips. Hotels were a higher class than what we were used to. People are extremely nice and helpful.
One thing I found can be improved: We got our package (maps, directions, etc) at the first hotel. For the most part that was fine, but if I had this information beforehand we could have started directly from Berlin rather than Orenburg. The route started there and the map showed us how to do it, but it was too late when we got this information. -

Great way to see Germany and Denmark off the beaten track
Berlin – Copenhagen
Enjoyed the trip -some days were very long and so we caught the train to reduce the fatigue
The tour notes were very helpful to help us decide on the train option
We used the train twice but still cycled when we got the the town -this way we could enjoy the town
Some of the hotels were ordinary and I think they could be improved -

Beautiful Ride; a Bit More Challenging Than Expected
Berlin – Copenhagen
The area between Berlin and Copenhagen is gorgeous, and this is a great way to experience it. It was a bit more challenging than the website description led me to believe; it's important to remember that this is a route, not a path. Some of the surfaces you'll ride on are not great and that impacts the fatigue factor. 50 miles on new asphalt is easier than 50 miles on patched roads, gravel paths and even some cobblestone. I'd estimate two-thirds of the trail surfaces were very good. Don't be dissuaded; just consider this when deciding if you're up for the distance. I agree with another reviewer who suggested packing a lunch each day -- it took us a few days to learn that, and it was helpful since sometimes finding lunch was inconvenient and time-consuming. The navigation factor of a self-guided tour can occasionally be tedious. This route is very well marked but not perfect. The printed materials provided by the tour operator were good; they were supplemented by GPS files that were excellent and extremely helpful. The rental bikes were high quality and a pleasure to ride. Overall the hotels exceeded expectations, but there were exceptions, and be prepared for stairs. If I could do this again, I'd bring less stuff -- this was complicated by the fact that it's a one-way trip and we were spending a week on either end. But you don't need much for riding, and I wish we'd figured a way to send some of our stuff to the final hotel.

great trip, though not for everyone
Berlin – Copenhagen
A "self guided" trip, it's not for everyone, even with guide book you will get lost in the almost 400 miles, and unless traveling with a companion might be alone for long stretches. It was August, among hottest in many years in Germany and Denmark, no hotels with AC. First night my room was a converted attic with spiral stair case like a light house (not easy with luggage) and quite hot. For most part hotels were fine, food good. I enjoyed the ever changing scenery, small villages, friendly people.

Wonderful trip
Stockholm Round-Trip Across Swedish History
Sweden was wonderful and I'm so glad I went on this tour.
My problem was with the navigation and the appropriateness of costing an electric bicycle.
Like my tour to Holland 4 years ago, no one actually sat down with any of us and went over the navigation materials beforehand. I think that it was expected that we'd simply be able to follow the path. Of 3 GPS devices, only 1 worked. Additionally, the odometer reading didn't correspond to the written materials or the GPS. It is, I find, essential to have someone from the tour group go over all those small details, and not assume that it is clear to the group.
Secondly, the GPS wasn't replaced till day 3, and I had to struggle with it to find a way to make it work. The Garmin devices were useless. Again if someone had taken the time to show us how to make them work, that may have been much better.
Thirdly, one of the women in our group ordered an e-bike. This proceeded to be a disaster - a suggestion for arranging this next time would be to help someone distinguish an e-road bike from an e-touring bike. Myself, I don't think an e-touring bike is appropriate for this trip - it's too heavy, more like a moped and not good news the gravel roads.
Once we got the hang of it, had two functioning GPS systems that functioned the entire day, and figured out how to coordinate the odometer with the GPS/written materials, it was all good. And in spite if these
difficulties, I had a fab trip!!!

BikeTours.com staff reply from Chloe
So glad to hear you enjoyed Sweden and your tour! Thanks for the notes on the GPS functionality and suggestions for instruction - we'll pass this onto the tour operator so that they may improve this. We're sorry to hear your friend did not enjoy the e-bike; they do tend to be heavier as they have a battery, etc. Thanks again for your feedback; we're so glad you enjoyed the hotels and route and had a fab trip!

Perfect pace for a cycling adventure
Berlin – Copenhagen
Great way to see Germany and Denmark. The route is not particularly hilly, however is a bit windy in Denmark. The self-paced route guides point out many sight-seeing and historic sites and swimming options, as well as options to supplement some of your daily distances with trains. The company also provided GPS files which allowed us to be on auto-pilot most of the time! We met very nice people on this tour: planning to meet up for coffee/cake breaks or dinner gave us a great chance to get to know them better. This was our third tour booked through Bike Tours and we will definitely use them again!

Stockholm and beyond
Stockholm Round-Trip Across Swedish History
Cycling in the area south of Stockholm was very pleasant. Empty roads and beautiful scenery, lakes, forests, rocky hillsides and the occasional herd of deer. Route directions were generally clear and easy to follow and the hills mentioned were far less intimidating than we had expected. Some of the gravel roads were ‘interesting’, but nothing that the hire bikes couldn’t cope with. The local rep, Frank, was excellent both for his briefing and for seamlessly transferring our luggage every day. I would have added some photos but unfortunately this part of your review specification doesn’t seem to work!

Excellent family tour
Berlin – Copenhagen
Our family of 4 just returned from an excellent 11 night, 10 day self-guided ride from Berlin to Copenhagen. We found the Mecklenburg Radtour company to be extremely well organized, have good equipment and would recommend anyone interested in a great, active holiday to give this a try! This was our first experience with Biketours.com, but we met 4-5 groups of bikers who had done multiple trips with other outfitters who felt this was particularly well organized. The hotels ranged from fine to excellent, and all had terrific breakfasts! The majority of the 400 miles was on well maintained paths and roads with only a few difficult areas.

Fantastic bike tour through the Swedish countryside
Stockholm and Sörmland
Very knowledgeable and experienced tour guide. However it would have been more enjoyable to have had the opportunity to spend more time exploring two of the villages. Maybe a two night stay in both Trosa and Mariefred. The tour of Gripsholm Castle was hurried and disappointed that two of the churches we stopped at during our ride weren’t open! Overall a wonderful time! Dieter and Michele were both very accommodating and nice.

Peddling in Paradise!
Stockholm Round-Trip Across Swedish History
A wonderful way to experience a slice of Sweden. Each day was a new adventure. Castles, cabins, fika , beautiful scenery and people filled our days. Each night we had a very different and wonderful accommodation. We enjoyed a nature reserve , a boutique hotel and a wonderful hotel in Stockholm city. Cycling through southern Sweden was a trip of a life time!

Gorgeous scenery and very fun tour
Stockholm Round-Trip Across Swedish History
This was my first self-guided bike tour, and I was traveling alone. The experience cycling in the countryside and through the smaller cities in Sweden was incredible. Because the tour leaves once each week, most days I was able to enjoy breakfast and short sections of the route with others on my trip. I made a friend out of one of the other solo travelers, and we ended up cycling together the last few days! Sweden is astounding--the rolling terrain, agriculture, and architecture were exactly what I needed on this trip. Everything felt cozy and welcoming to me. The tour documents recommended lunch stops or places to enjoy fika (breaks for coffee and cake!) for each day. Accommodations were terrific as well. I was able to use the turn-by-turn directions, maps, and GPS unit with no issues.

Fabulous Scenery and Fabulous Tour Operator
Bergen to Sognefjord: Cycle Norway's Greatest Landscapes
Norway's Sognefjord is a unique scenic experience, with dozens of 5,000+ foot mountains rising next to the water and charming small towns dotting the coast. And the fjord has more waterfalls than we could count.
The tour's bike rides were mostly on coastal roads, without much traffic and with only modest hills. But what really made the trip special was the tour operator. Our guide Merete grew up in the area and has incredible local knowledge of the region and its history, as well as the friendliest and most helpful attitude. Highly recommended trip.

Tall Ship Sailing and Biking

Wonderful adventure. Strongly consider e-bike option due to strong headwinds switching between north and south. This is a new trip and we were on the maiden voyage, so the guides were becoming familiar with the routes available. Great food and ambiance.

Best bike/sail trip yet!
Denmark and Sweden by Sail and Bike
We had 30 bikers, so the group was divided into two, and eventually evolved into three biking groups. Since many had downloaded the app, some people set off on their own. The e-bikes were wonderful and welcome since the winds off the coast could be strong! Although it rained on arrival day, it was sunny and 60’s every day thereafter. The biking varied- from urban streets to rural farm areas with few major inclines. Amazing traditional and contemporary architecture, climbing roses, peonies, and poppies everywhere. Danish and Swedish locals were friendly and helpful as needed.
The ship had 4 comfortable areas for people to hang out in; two inside and two outside. The sailing crew (all young women) were fabulous: friendly, helpful, and strong (!) when putting up the sails! Chef Pete was phenomenal- gourmet meals and fika daily at 4:00. The Captain was friendly and entertaining - very proud of his boat and crew, understandably.
The tour guides were friendly, fun, and incredibly helpful as bikers fell or had tire issues. In past bike/barge tours, the program guides provided more history, info, etc about each city, but we googled/translated info as needed.
I’ve been on 3 other bike/sail trips so assumed the compartments would be small; there were complaints among new tour participants expecting more room. -

Fun mix of bike & boat
Denmark and Sweden by Sail and Bike
This was our third biketours trip and it was a great one. The scenery wasn't as awe inspiring as the Dolomites trip, and the historical sights weren't as strong as the Catalonia trip, but it was a pleasant trip in two great countries.
The rides weren't difficult, the boat was fun, the food was great. -

For the cabins-- NEED to include ladder or stool for the cabins (4 of them) that have one bed that is almost 120 cm high we had to move our cabin to cabin #2 which was much smaller. Without the stool or ladder I couldn't get in and out of bed safely
