Wonderful Trip
We self guided down the Danube from Passau to Vienna. The experience was great. We stopped where and when we wanted to to stop and enjoyed the locals along the way. Being self guided was no problem at all, my only suggestion is to tie the hotels to the route for the for guidance. We ended up using Google maps to take us from the end of the route to the hotel in Linz and Vienna.
The Great hotels were : The Altstadt Hotel Passau, Landgastof Winter Ardagger, Hotel Zur Post Melk, Hotel Richard Lowenherz Dunstein and the Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof Vienna. All of these hotel were phenominal. Frau Winter and the team in Adagger make feel right at home, great bar, great food and great hosts make for great stay. Elisabeth and her staff at Hotel Zur Post make you fell right at home, with a great wine tasting from the Wachau Valley, along with a great kitchen and ice cream shop out front makes this a great place to stay and enjoy their wonderful hospitality. Their uniforms are wonderful and ad to the experience! The Richard Loweherz in Durnstein is built around an abbey built in the 1400's, service was great and rooms comfortable. The restaurant was great also. The Steigenberger Hotel in Vienna puts the S in service. All of the staff went above and beyond to make sure you had what you needed for a wonderful stay. Great hotel in a large city with a small hotel feel. The real downer was the Radisson in Linz, indifferent front desk staff, dirty carpet in the first room and attached to a casino tells all about who they cater to. We were not impressed. The hotel in Tullin, The Best Western was brand new spotless and had a great manager. For business type of hotel this was a five star experience compared to Linz. The hotel is spotlessly clean and in a great part of town central to everything, it is not a traditional European old style hotel. The hotel in Schlogen we were indifferent to it is a summer resort hotel with a weird layout. It was okay but to call it upscale was stretching things a little in our opinion. It is located on the great bend and has wonderful views for the Danube and a great back deck to eat and drink on.
The Wachau valley is the heart of this tour for sheer beauty as was the ride from Schlogen to Linz and Linz to Ardagger. Those were our most enjoyable legs.
The bikes were brand new for the season for us and our two friend who had electric bikes they both had about 4000km on them. The bikes were in great repair and required no maintenance along the ride. The disk brakes were a welcome addition in the rain.
If you want to take a great bike ride down through Germany and Austria this ride is for you. Virtually flat with just a few climbs in and out of towns makes for an easy ride, we ended up gaining weight from all of the great food! Don't be put off by self guided, it's a great way to see everything you want to see.- What was the date of your tour?

Wonderful Trip
Bike tours arranged a wonderful trip for us. The hotels were all first class with great accommodations, food, and friendly staff. The breakfasts were amazing! The route was well planned with interesting sights, charming villages, and famous landmarks. Our luggage was almost always to the hotels before we arrived (except on our short biking day). Well planned. No problems at all.
The e-bikes are a game changer for older people. Ours were perfectly maintained. They might have been new. The upscale hotels were excellent; a couple of them were beyond excellent. The towns we visited were charming and friendly. We would have spent an extra day in most of them if we had the trip do over. We had perfect weather but we understand that is highly unusual in early May. Our bags were moved reliably.
I recommend a phone holder if you want to use the excellent app for directions. When it's in the provided waterproof handlebar pack, glare makes it very difficult to see, and accessing it is a hassle.
The directions don't guide you all the way to your hotel. We used Google Maps for the final directions.
Overall it was a great trip for us. -

Favorite bike tour!
This is our 3rd this type tour and for sure our favorite. The Danube cycle path is perfect… gorgeous scenery, flat, paved. We loved the small towns and the accommodations. Would highly recommend. Oh… the bikes were great too.

Danube biking adventure
Riding along the Danube river through Austria to Vienna was a wonderful experience. Everything was very well organised, from bike collection, through route guidance, accommodation and support. The riding is easy, though on our ride we did encounter some strong head winds. There is spectacular scenery and interesting villages to keep interest up. We thoroughly recommend the bike tour.

Fabulous Ride, Scenery and Hotels
Just a fantastic ride down the Danube. The river valley scenery was especially beautiful, but we all also enjoyed riding through the small towns along the way. Great choice of hotels which all had excellent breakfasts to start us on our day. The only real disappointment we had was the introduction to the tour and bikes by the representative of the tour company. He was late, didn't seem too interested in helping us, and didn't check that the bikes were adjusted correctly for each of us. We had to do some additional adjustments ourselves the next day which caused some problems and could have been totally avoided if he had just checked each of us and had tools to make final changes. That wasn't a good start, but after that, the ride, directions and hotels were all great. Also glad we did an unguided tour as we really didn't need a guide for this trip.

Fantastic trip!
This was our 3rd ride with Biketours. It was a fantastic and enjoyable as the previous 2. The local tour company did a great job with the app and book for navigation. The upscale lodging was just that. All fantastic and of course the European breakfast can't be beat. The Danube path was mostly flat, well-marked, and full of highlights—Passau’s charm, the Wachau Valley, Melk Abbey, and Vienna’s grandeur. Daily luggage transfers made travel easy, and we enjoyed the freedom to stop for coffee, pastries, or wine tastings whenever we wanted. Comfortable inns, great food, and stunning scenery made each day memorable. Arriving in Vienna by bike felt like a real accomplishment. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a scenic, flexible, and stress-free cycling vacation.

Romantic Danube
This was our fourth time riding this trip. One can never tire riding this beautiful cycle path, the beautiful countryside, small town’s and villages, farms, orchards, city centers and buildings that are hundreds of years old, castles, etc. We prefer to go with the “Upscale Version “, perhaps a reflection of our age. The hotels and locations were excellent.
We select the upgraded bikes and they were in perfect condition. We combined the “Tauren Krimml to Passau “ cycle route on this trip and enjoyed the ride immensely.

Danube Bike Path 8 nights (Upscale Lodging)
We had a fantastic bike ride along the Danube in September this year, taking the upscale lodging option. Very pleased with all our accommodation. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. As we aren't regular bike riders we chose the E-bikes and had no problems at all. The weather was perfect the whole way - average 25 degree days.
Would recommend this ride as very scenic and lots to do on the way.

A perfect way to see and experience Germany and Austria.
We loved our cycling trip along the Danube; it was a memorable experience in so many ways. The bike paths were well marked and made the ride so enjoyable. The scenery was beautiful, and we loved each day and the cities and towns we had a chance to visit. The accommodation was fabulous - each hotel/inn was beautiful and unique and we were welcomed with incredible European hospitality. Our luggage transfer was seamless, without a glitch the entire trip and made the arrival (and departure) so easy for us on both ends. Great trip for a group of five people with mixed biking abilities
The sights on this trip were perfect and so enjoyable. Everyone felt that generally speaking the cycling was the right level and the scenery was everything we hoped for. There was a section of the bike path going into Linz that was on a narrow sidewalk next to a busy road that was not suitable for the less experienced members of our group. Also generally speaking our daily mileages as recorded by our GPS watches were several miles longer than the distances noted in the tour description on the website. On the whole, the hotels were charming and the service to move luggage was very effective. Luggage was often early and never past the promised time of 6 PM, although the last day cut it close! Trail directions were excellent, among the best we've had on several bike tours we have taken. Directions to specific hotels were mostly good, except for the directions to Landgasthof Winter in Ardagger Stift. Those directions were really terrible and caused us to get seriously lost. In addition, that hotel was very very charming, but not in a great location as it was a ways off the trail and up a steep hill. In the time before the trip BikeTours.com was slow in responding to questions and requests. Regardless of some of these points, on the whole we all absolutely loved this trip, would recommend it to others, and would look for one like it to do again.

Danube Bike Path 8 Nights (Upscale Lodging)
We had a fantastic week biking and exploring the towns and cities along the Danube in Austria. All of the accommodation and dinners that were booked for us by BikeTours.com were fantastic and certainly lived up to the "upscale lodging" description. They also did a fantastic job moving our luggage between our hotel making that process seamless. Would more than recommend this trip to anyone, also early June turned out to be a fantastic time to do this trip as we had perfect weather and beautiful spring flowers everywhere.

Fabulous trip!
We upgraded to e-bikes at the last minute and we’re glad we did since we had a 20 mph headwind the first three days. The bikes were a blast! Lovely scenery, good written directions and the app was useful too. The hotels were all very good, from rustic to lavish in Durnstein. We did our trip in late May, weather was great and the trail was not crowded. We found great outdoor restaurants for lunch every day. Some of these were recommended in the informational materials which was very helpful!
