Very nice vacation

· Innsbruck to Salzburg: Through the Alps Along River Cycle Trails
The scenery was even better than the promotional pictures indicate. The arrangements were great, the hotels were wonderful, and I would recommend the half-board option. Food was super. Rained on us several days but it was still beautiful. Directions got a little vague in some cases through the cities. We were very happy with our experience.

The entire trip was awesome from start to finish. Tour guide(Hester)and boat staff/captain were all extremely accommodating at every request. The thirty four passengers from U.S.,Canada,Scotland,Brazil,Germany,Switzerland and Portugal were all easy going and ranged in ages fro two teenage girls to people around 70.There were never any issues between the guests during meals, evening relaxing time and daily rides.The choice of paths/routes brought out the best of Belgium and Holland and high lighted the country side farms and villages as well as several larger cities. The only suggestions we have would be to try and provide a little variety of breakfast foods and keep the cabin temperature a little cooler on very hot summer days.

Great group holiday

Perfect way to see a country and get some excercise at the same time however compared to other bike tours I have done we were disappointed that we were not met by local company at beginning of trip, the bikes didn't come with helmets or water bottle holders or a place on handlebars to put the maps

Thank you very much for your feedback. We encourage all clients to review "Included services" on the tour pages, so they have appropriate expectations for what is included. For this very low-cost tour (435 euros), no orientations are offered. Instead, the operator provides very detailed tour documenations. On the "Bike rentals" page, it's specifically stated, "Helmets are not available to rent. We recommend that you bring or buy your own helmet for safety and hygiene purposes." This is increasingly the case for most operators (I never wear a rental helmet, as it may not fit, may have an invisible crack (which renders it useless), and there's no amount of disinfectant that can eliminate previous users' sweat). It's also noted that map holders are available on request. Relative to bottle holders, many operators don't offer them, as they have proven dangerous for riders who aren't accustomed to reaching down while riding.
I apologize that our tour advisor staff did not make sure your expectations were appropriate for this tour, which routinely gets top ratings.

We did a self-guided tour and had a wonderful time. We used electric bikes and I was very happy with that choice. It was still a lot of work and we got a ton of exercise, but it made it so we were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The paths were very good and we were on roads only about 10% of the time. The hotels were very nice-small and quaint with lovely breakfasts. The tour director in Austria was very quick to reply when the electric stopped working on my bike on the 4th day. She found someone to fix the bike early the next day. The only challenge was reading the maps but that was part of the adventure. We definitely made more than a few wrong turns and had to backtrack, but having the electric bikes made it okay.

Beautiful Austria!
· Innsbruck to Salzburg: Through the Alps Along River Cycle Trails
This was a wonderful tour for a "beginner" like me! The countryside was gorgeous, the bike paths varied, and the extra sights mentioned in the navigation book were easy to find and well-worth stopping to see. Everything organised by the tour company ran like clockwork: the bike delivery, hotel reservations, luggage transfer and mountain-pass transfer.
The three of us on this self-guided tour did not always agree on the direction to take, which led to quite a few "navigation discussions" and a few wrong turns, but that actually added to the adventure of the experience. Two days out of our five ride days, including the longest day, were in the rain (pretty heavy rain, in fact). Judging by the printed material, this is not unusual for the area, so be prepared!
A great experience - the area, the ride and the organisation!

A Fantstic Experience

Interesting Culture Great Scenery
· Bolzano – Verona – Venice
We decided to do two week long bike tours in succession with this trip coming immediately after the previous tour finish in Lecce.
We caught an overnight train from Lecce to Bolzano which worked out quite well initially. The only problem was that our last couple of days were were getting a bit sick of moving in and out every day. We probably should have given ourselves a little more time in between trips.
The tour itself was fantastic, with the main surprise being the cultural differences between the south and north. The germanic influences were much stronger that i had expected. Also, being in the foothills of the dolomites, obviously means different architecture and traditions. This was all good.
The cycling itself was generally very easy and for the first few days followed a dedicated cycle way. There is plenty of time to take detours into the villages off the main track and still arrive at the next destination in plenty of time.
Although the tour was very well organised, the tour directions were quite poor in comparison to other tours we had taken, however because the trail itself is quite well marked, it is probably better to follow your nose and the o site directions rather than using the detailed guide book. (there have obviously been recent changes to the tour route itself)
if your are wanting a taste of the high italian mountains without having to climb any, this would be an ideal trip. there is a lot of spectacular scenery along the valley road and across lake garda before changing to a more typical italian countryside for the final couple of days towards venice.
just a note on the approach into vincenza, my wife decided that she did not want to take the hillier route (there is a choice) but then when she discovered we were staying at the hotel at the top of a big hill, she regretted it. Take the hillier route into vincenza.
for us, the apuglia tour was probably slightly better tour, but we have absolutely no regrets in doing this one as well.

Each town we visited was unique. Bolzano had a very Austrian feel and Venice was magical. Glad that we chose the 4-star hotels because they were beautiful and roomy and worth the extra money! The self-guided tour allowed us the flexibility to seek out really cool local restaurants and go at our own pace. It was the trip of a lifetime and the recommendations and help from Matt and the staff at BikeTours was excellent.
