Enlighten the Senses

Discover Italy, an enchanting peninsula extending into the sparkling Mediterranean Sea renowned for its picturesque towns, rolling hills, verdant vineyards, olive groves, mountains, lakes, and, of course, its coastline.

No European country draws visitors back to its shores again and again like Italy. Together, it boasts the highest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, from the ancient city of Rome to the lagoon of Venice, the sun-kissed Amalfi Coast to the majestic peaks of the Dolomites. Consisting of 21 diverse regions, each with its own charm, Italy is known for its celebration of ‘vita lenta’, or the ‘slow life’ – good conversation, tantalizing food and drink, and savoring life’s simple pleasures.

  • What makes Italy a great destination for a bike tour?

An Italy bike tour allows travelers to fully immerse themselves in the ‘vita lenta’, enjoying all the benefits of slow travel as one beautiful coastline, city, village or vineyard unfolds before them. Whether you’re cruising the canals of Venice, riding the cobbled streets of Rome, or taking to the trails of Tuscany (with an authentic cooking class and wine tasting or two), you’ll find yourself enraptured by Italy’s elegant landscapes and the charming embrace of ‘la dolce vita’ (the ‘sweet life’).

  • When is the best time to take a bike tour in Italy?

The best time to take a bike tour in Italy is during spring (April to June) and fall (September to October), when the temperatures are most comfortable for cycling. However, cycling in Italy is pleasant at almost any time of year.

Spring brings wildflowers and vineyards, with ideal riding temperatures in Tuscany, Puglia and the northern Italian lakes. The fall is harvest season and the perfect time for a food and wine tour.

The hottest temperatures are in the summer (July to August), but the air is cooler in the Alps, Dolomites, or northern lakes. If you choose to ride in winter (November to March), the landscapes will be quiet and cool with some milder temperatures in Sicily and Sardinia.

  • Are Italy bike tours suitable for beginners?

Many regions and cycling routes in Italy are suitable for beginners, with e-bikes making biking holidays more accessible and van support often available on tours.

As the landscapes is varied, check whether your route advises e-bikes due to any rolling hills and climbs.
