Highlights in this region include the UNESCO Biosphere reserve – the largest unbroken expanse of riverside woodland in Central Europe, the Semper Opera House in Dresden, the largest canal bridge in the world, and more.

Why cyclists love it

The Elbe Cycle Route has been voted the favorite cycle route six years in a row by members of the Germany Cyclists' Federation, and that’s just one designated bike path that crosses this region!

Dedicated cycle routes run alongside the Elbe River, with some cycling on paved roads with minimal traffic. The cycling paths are well marked, making them easy to navigate.

Residents of the region are very hospitable, and restaurants and lodging along the way happily accommodate cyclists. The flat to rolling terrain makes this region manageable for first time cycle tourists and families with children.
