Elbe River Valley
Historic beauty
The Elbe River makes its way from to the North Sea, passing by enchanting mountains, scenic plains, and fascinating villages, taking you past historic cities like Hamburg, Meissen, Bad Schandau, and Dresden. Timeless castles are nestled among vast vineyards, dramatic rock formations, and marshland.
The Elbe Cycle Route has been voted the favorite cycle route six years in a row by members of the Germany Cyclists’ Federation. Dedicated cycle routes run alongside the Elbe River, with some cycling on paved roads with minimal traffic. The cycling paths are well marked, making them easy to navigate. Residents of the region are very hospitable, and restaurants and lodging along the way happily accommodate cyclists. The flat to rolling terrain makes this region manageable for first-time cycle tourists and families with children.
“This trip was a blast! It was especially cool to see how the geography and culture changed as we moved out of Czech Republic and into Germany. This tour has a little bit of everything to satisfy everyone's tastes.”
