The magical city of Milwaukee, the largest in Wisconsin, has become known for its incredible brewing industry, arresting architecture, and vibrant arts and cultural scene. In 2018, Vogue voted Milwaukee ‘The Coolest City in the Midwest’.

The city more than lives up to its name, variously translated from the Algonquin for ‘beautiful’, ‘pleasant land’, and ‘gathering place [by the water]’. Sitting along the shores of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee’s terrain is characterized by sensational bluffs that begin about a mile from Downtown, a beautiful glacier path, and the incredible inland lakes of Kettle Moraine and the lake county 30 miles from the city.

Milwaukee’s brewing industry began to take off in the 1840s, when German settlers set up more than two dozen breweries, as well as some of the taverns and beer halls that are abundant in the city to this day. At one time, Milwaukee was home to four of the world’s largest brewing companies - Pabst, Miller, Schlitz, and Blatz. The historic Pabst Mansion, a fascinating example of Flemish Renaissance Revival-style architecture, was built for the founder of the Pabst Brewery Company, and can still be toured today.

Sometimes referred to as the ‘City of Festivals’, Milwaukee is a hive of cultural events, especially during the warm summer months, including Summerfest, Jazz in the Park, and various other dining, sailing, kayaking, and art events on Lake Michigan and in Henry Maier Festival Park.
