Sublime scenery and winning wines
Ride amidst the rolling hills, vineyards, and picturesque paysages of the Yarra Valley Bike Tour with Wine Tasting & Lunch! Venture through the valley on a scenic route that soaks up some of the region's best food and wine, with tea at a cafe, lunch at a winery, and several wine tastings over the course of this day tour.
Your guided tour will follow the picturesque Warburton Rail Trail. This trail was originally a railway line that served as a vital transport route for the local timber industry, and as this bike tour progresses your guide will share insights into the region's role in Australia's development. You'll then stop for a tea break either at the Carriage Cafe, a beautifully restored train carriage that exudes a nostalgic atmosphere, or at a local winery.
Cycling on you'll begin your wine tastings, stopping either at Yerring Station, or some smaller local wineries. The history of viticulture in the Yarra Valley dates back to the mid-19th century when Swiss settlers planted the first vines in the region. It wasn't until the 1960s and 1970s that the Yarra Valley emerged as a significant wine-producing area, and today the region is known for its diverse microclimates and soil types that result in elegant, complex palettes.
The wineries at which you stop on this guided tour can be adjusted to suit your preferences, so if you fancy a visit to one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in the Yarra Valley, be sure to stop at Yerring Station, which has been producing wine since 1838! Alternatively, for a more intimate experience, stop at some of the valley's numerous cellar doors, which are small tasting rooms attached to wineries. These cellar doors offer a personalized experience for wine aficionados, allowing you to engage with the wine producers at length and gain a sense of each winery's unique character and production process.
You'll stop at a vineyard for lunch, included in the price of this bicycle tour. Here, you'll enjoy a wood-fired pizza along with a glass of wine, beer or a soft drink. After this, if time allows, you'll continue to indulge your taste buds with a visit to the renowned Yarra Valley Dairy or the delectable Yarra Valley Chocolaterie. Yarra Valley Dairy specializes in handcrafted artisanal cheeses, and you’ll be able to observe the cheese-making process. If you have a sweeter tooth, a visit to the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie is the ideal opportunity to indulge in some delicious confectionary before pedaling back to base along a scenic route.
