    • Viticulture and verdant views

Follow the Bellarine Rail Trail on this bike tour to discover the best of the Greater Geelong area's burgeoning viticulture and vibrant food scene. Ride along the former railway line, soaking up views of the region's dramatic coastal landscapes and white sand beaches, with stops for morning tea at a winery or cafe, some cellar door wine tastings, and lunch at a local vineyard.

This guided tour follows the Bellarine Rail Trail that spans approximately 32 kilometers, traversing coastal regions, bushland, wetlands, and farmland. Cycling along a portion of this trail, you'll be able to admire Geelong's dramatic and varied landscapes as your guide explains the region's connection to the railway and its role in the development of the Bellarine Peninsula. After cycling a while, this bike tour will stop for a tea break at a local winery or cafe, where you’ll savor the verdant rows of vines stretching towards the horizon as you sip.

Nestled between Port Phillip Bay and the Bass Strait, the Bellarine Peninsula benefits from a cool maritime climate, which is ideal for growing a variety of grapes. You’ll experience this first hand as your bicycle tour rides on towards the first wine tasting. The viticultural history of the Bellarine Peninsula can be traced back to the mid-19th century when the first vineyards were established, though it wasn't until the late 20th century that wine making flourished here.

Depending on time, you’ll stop at one or two cellar doors, which are small tasting rooms attached to wineries. These cellar doors offer an intimate and personalized experience for wine enthusiasts, allowing you to engage with the wine producers at length and gain a sense of the winery's unique character and production process on this trip.

After testing your palette on some of the region’s finest grape varieties, your guided tour pedals onwards to another winery for a delicious vineyard lunch, and of course, a glass of wine! From here, your day tour will conclude its sightseeing along a scenic route from which you’ll enjoy views of golden sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters creating a captivating contrast against the azure horizon.
