Fall in love with fair Verona

Fall in love with Verona and let its highlights and hidden gems vie for your attention! This guided bicycle tour takes in Verona’s most spectacular sightseeing spots, including the Castelvecchio Museum, Piazza Bra, Roman Amphitheater, Porta Borsari, Piazza delle Erbe, Casa di Giulietta (Romeo and Juliet balcony), Piazza dei Signori e Arche Scaligere, Adige River, Bra Molinari, Duomo, Ponte Pietra, Castel San Pietro, Scaliger Bridge, and Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore.

Kicking off from Castelvecchio Museum, a commanding Gothic castle, pedal to Piazza Bra. Here, you’ll be awe-struck by the Roman Amphitheater, whose remarkable walls are tinged rose petal pink in the sunlight. Home to the opera, thousands gather here for atmospheric performances in the colossal ancient arena.

Pushing on to Porta Borsari, gaze over the Roman gate dating back to the 1st Century AD. Your bicycle tour will soon reach Market Square, or Piazza delle Erbe, once the city’s forum during the reign of the Roman Empire. These days, the piazza is alive with a bustling open-air market. Glide around and feast your eyes on the frescoes adorning one of Italy’s most historic and exquisitely beautiful squares.

Love is in the air as you glide into Casa di Giulietta, Verona’s temple of love. Park your bike up beneath the balcony that inspired Shakespeare’s poignant scene between Romeo and Juliet. A bronze statue of Juliet can now be encountered in this atmospheric spot. Moving on to the medieval Piazza dei Signori e Arche Scaligere, cycle around a square brimming with beautiful buildings and romantic archways before you reach the Adige River.

Enjoy an exceptional view of Verona, its hills and the Adige as you reach Bra Molinari. Discover the breathtaking Duomo before you cross the Ponte Pietra, an ancient arch bridge dating back to the Roman Empire. Parking up your bike for this next section of the tour, take a little climb to the Castel San Pietro. From the panoramic staircase, enjoy an unbeatable vista of Roman ruins and vivacious Verona. This is the high point of the tour!

Cycle back across the Adige via the Scaliger Bridge, first built in the 14th Century but sadly reduced to rubble in 1945 by the retreating German forces. Thankfully, the bridge was painstakingly rebuilt with its original materials for you to admire and enjoy today.

Your day tour winds down at the beautiful Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore, nestling Mantegna’s masterpiece and said to house the crypt where Shakespeare’s ill-fated lovers sealed the knot. Stepping back out into the sunshine, admire its glistening white exterior and reflect on your romantic ride through ‘fair Verona’.
