Tour description

*NOTE: All 2018 dates are full. Watch for 2019 dates.*

Join us on a fascinating Journey! This tour combines the Greek mainland with the impressive islands of the Ionian Sea. For one week, traveling by bicycle and on the two-masted motor sailer Panagiota, we experience first-hand the cultural and scenic diversity of Greece. In the archipelago of the Ionian Islands, you see Greece at its greenest.

An unspoiled landscape and centuries of Venetian influence characterize this still fairly unknown group of islands. The crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea glittering in all shades of blue, the mountainous landscape of Cephalonia and the bird-sanctuary island of Lefkas, the small island of Paxos densely covered in olive groves, as well as the beautiful Old Town of Corfu - all guarantee a wonderfully relaxing vacation.

Famous sites such as Delphi, where the ancient Greeks once consulted the oracle, or Aegina, where the white temple of Aphaia gleams high above the sea, are some of the highlights of the tour. The passage through the Corinth Canal, an artificial seaway connecting the Gulf of Corinth with the Aegean, will surely become an unforgettable memory.

Daily program

This tour is available from Corfu - Athens (May 5, Jun 23, Aug 25, 2018) or from Athens - Corfu (Jun 16, 30; Sep 29, 2018). The itinerary listed below describes the itinerary beginning in Corfu.

Day 1: Arrival to Corfu town
Arrive individually to Corfu. Check in on the ship from 2:00pm on. In the afternoon, you'll have time to explore the charming old town of Corfu. Dinner on board. Overnight in Corfu.

Day 2: Corfu Island – Island of Paxos (15 miles/23 km)
Cast off! In the morning crossing to Paxos, the smallest of the seven Ionian Islands is a grove of olive trees, which gives the island its wonderful silver green color. On our first cycle trip, we circle the whole island. We can also have a swim in the Mediterranean on one of the many beaches. Enjoy the evening in a cozy tavern in the unique natural harbor of Gaios!
Overnight stay on Paxos.

Day 3: Lefkas town – Nidri (19 miles/30 km)
The day starts with a longer boat crossing to the City of Lefkas. On this crossing, you will pass by the original swing bridge which connects the island of Lefkas with the Greek mainland. Today's tour leads you across the island's fascinating mountain landscape to the lively harbor of Nidri. The island of Skorpios can be seen from your moorings, once the private haven of shipping magnate Aristotle Socrates Onassis.
The night is spent in Nidri.

Day 4: Islands of Lefkas and Cephalonia (17 miles/28 km)
Today's cycle tour takes us from Nidri to the nearby beautiful waterfalls. Later on, we explore the South of Lefkas Island while riding to Vasiliki. From there – if weather conditions are fine – we sail to Porto Katsiki, one of the most famous beaches in Greece, where we can anchor for swimming. Finally, we cross over to Fiskardo, where we spend the night. The harbor town on the Northern point of Cephalonia charms visitors with its colorful houses and numerous cafés and bars along the picturesque harbor promenade.

Day 5: Ithaca Island – Galaxidi (12 or 17 miles/20 or 28 km)
In the morning we cycle on the Ithaca Island. The homeland of the mythical king Odysseus is a hilly island with a beautiful landscape. On today's cycle route we can enjoy the typical character of the Ionian Islands away from the beaten tourist track: gnarled olive trees, crystal clear wat, r and friendly islanders – time appears to stand still on Ithaca. The ship awaits us for a long sail to Galaxidi, where we arrive late at night and spend our night.
Overnight on board near Galaxidi.

Day 6: Galaxidi – Delphi – Corinth Channel
In the morning a transfer picks us up to bring us to the famous site of Delphi, which rests at the foot of the Parnassus mountain range. Apollo, the god of the light, was once worshiped here and the Oracle consulted. Not only the many temples and treasuries, the well-preserved theater and the stadium, but mainly the breathtaking hillside location of the sanctuary makes the visit to Delphi an unforgettable experience.

In the afternoon, the bus takes us back to Galaxidi. We continue by boat with the crossing to Corinth through the channel of Corinth, which was completed in 1893. Julius Caesar has already had plans for its construction. This 3.9 mi./6.3 km long but only 79 ft./24 m wide and 26 ft./8 m deep canal connects the Aegean Sea with the Gulf of Corinth. It saves travelers from sailing around the whole Peloponnese (approximately 248 mi./400 km long trip from Athens and Corinth).

Day 7: Aegina Island – Piraeus (19 miles/30 km)
On Aegina, the famous pistachio island, our last cycle tour takes us to the excellently preserved temple of Aphaia. Finally, we sail to Piraeus, where an impressive cruise ends. The last evening aboard takes place traditionally and includes the communal dinner and a last get-together in a cozy atmosphere with crew and tour guides.
Overnight on board near Piraeus.

Day 8: Athens/Piraeus (Disembarkation)
After breakfast, check-out and begin your return travel home, or extend your holiday in Athens or on Aegina Island.

These terms and conditions, which you agree to by booking your trip, govern the contractual relationship between you as traveler and us as tour operator.  The terms and conditions supplement Paragraph 651 and those following in the German BGB (Buergerliches Gesetzbuch) that govern travel contract law. Please read all the following terms and conditions carefully.

Trip Cancellation
If the minimum number of participants required for a trip is not met (18 participants for bus and boat trips, unless otherwise noted), we reserve the right to cancel it. The decision about whether the trip will take place or not will be made as early as possible, three weeks before the beginning of the trip at the latest. In case of trip cancellation, all payments you have made will be fully refunded. There can be no additional claims made against us.  As the tour operator, we have the right to cancel the tour if the trip is jeopardized, made difficult, or impaired due to an act of God.

Services
The foundation upon which the trip is organized is the description of the services, which is available in the brochure, in official pamphlets and on our website, and confirmed in your travel contract. Alterations that become necessary after the finalization of the contract and that are made in good faith are permitted if they are not substantial, and do not change the overall character of the trip.  We assume no liability for information in the brochures of our partners or in our own brochure, even if we issued them.

Liability
We are liable within the scope of a merchant’s duty of care for diligent trip preparation, careful selection and supervision of participating agencies, accuracy of service and activity descriptions, and standard provision of the services agreed upon. Our liability for damages other than personal injury is limited to three times the cost of the trip, provided the damages are neither intentional nor due to gross negligence. This limitation is still in effect if we are responsible for the damage due to the fault of a service provider.  If we are solely procurers of foreign services, we are liable only for proper procurement, not for the services. We are liable for damage or loss of luggage up to the amount of 250 € only if the damage was caused by us and was indicated to us immediately.  Scratches on luggage, torn luggage handles, and damaged wheels are excluded from any liability.  Upon delivery of luggage at the accommodation facilities, the liability is transferred according to § 701 BGB to the officer of the accommodations.  Services that were not made use of will not be reimbursed.

Participation
A vacation that involves exercise and physical activity requires greater commitment than a conventional package tour. It is your duty to make certain that you are up to the physical challenges of such a trip.  The pre-condition for a bike-tour is that you are able to handle a bicycle in street traffic and on unpaved paths under any weather conditions.  If you rent a bike, it is your responsibility to check the condition of the bike, particularly the brakes.  You bear sole responsibility for adhering to all legal regulations at home and abroad, particularly regulations about travel documents and cross-border trade.  When traveling across the exterior borders of the EU, your luggage must remain unlocked, to facilitate passage through customs.  If your baggage is searched, you will be notified about it upon arrival at the destination.  If problems with the procurement of the services occur, you are required to help within the scope of legal regulations, in order to avoid potential damages or keep them at a minimum and report any complaints to us immediately.

Duty of Care
During the duration of the trip, you are liable for damage to or loss of bicycles and any equipment entrusted to you.  For guided tours, this is only valid if you have separated yourself from the group, have disobeyed instructions from the tour guides, or caused the damage or loss intentionally, through negligence or gross negligence.

Warranty
You can demand redress if the trip services are not rendered according to the contract. This can be solved by us providing compensation of equal or greater value.  In the case of disproportionate effort, corrective action can be denied.  For the period in which the services that have not been rendered according to contract, you can request a reduction in travel price after your return. The pre-condition for this is the immediate notification of our deficiencies or those of our tour guides, so that we have the opportunity to find a remedy.  Tour guides are not authorized to recognize claims.  Independent of a reduction in travel price, you can demand compensation due to non-compliance with the travel contract, unless we are not responsible for the defect.

Limitation of claim
Claims must be made in writing within one month of the contractual end of the trip. The statute of limitation for claims based on the contract expires six months after the contractual end of the trip.  The statute of limitations for all claims of civil offence expires three years after the end of the trip.

Privacy of Personal InformationAll personal information that you give us for the processing of the trip is protected against misuse under German personal data protection law.

Great trip, good company

We joined as a family of 6with baby. I was impressed with the way the other participants and the crew related to having a baby on board. Open, gentle, flexible.
For us the combination of being together as a family, and being together with other very interesting, very internationally based and experienced fellow travellers, was splendid.
We made new friends.
My intention for this holiday had been to combine something sportive with culture and relaxation. And this trip turned out to be exactly that.
Our guides were excellent and adequately responsible. Tina, despite having a severe migraine, not being well at all, managed admiringly well to be there for us in her very cheerful self.
Last but not least, we had a professionally excellent and personally very gentle crew. Without them it wouldn't have been such a good tour.

Ionian islands

The trip to Greece was wonderful . The guides were so hospitable, so accommodating and so helpful couldn't have asked for better guides. The terrain was difficult, so you may need the E-bike after the second or third day. The captain and his crew were wonderful, the food was fantastic on the boat . The cabins were always clean . Swimming off the boat in the Ionian Sea after biking was the best . Even after doing all those hills it was the most relaxing bike tour I've done yet .

Biking and Sailing through scenery and history

I went on this tour as a staff member of BikeTours.com My tour was the modified version from Corfu to Athens, but I sailed on the Panagiota and cycled on several of the same islands.

Most days on my tour we cycled in the cool of the morning, rebounded the boat, dropped anchor for a swim-stop then sailed to our next Island during the afternoon, and moored at the dock overnight.

Our guides devised routes to suit the various abilities and desires of the group members, some days we all rode together, and on others some took a more strenuous route while others a took shorter ride with less ascent. The guides were so knowledgable and helpful, they really enhanced our understanding of Greek history and mythology (for example when we visited the home island of Odysseus, they related the tale of "The Odyssey").

The boat crew were so helpful and welcoming, the food was fresh and delicious. Although, in the past, I've had a difficult time on boats due to the rocking motion, I was delighted to find that on this occasion, this was not an issue for me at all.
