Tour description

This 6-night tour covers three countries! We start in Croatia, continue into Bosnia & Herzegovina, travel south to Montenegro, and then return to Croatia. Highlights cities include Dubrovnik, Mostar and Kotor.

We will continue on from Dubrovnik into Bosnia & Herzegovina, following the Ciro rail trail over the border across remote and rural parts of the country. The former rail line was built by the Austrian-Hungarian Empire in the early 20th century, and this night we’ll stay in a renovated train station, now a hotel.

Then it’s on to Mostar, a fascinating city straddling the Neretva River. We’ll have time to walk across the famous old bridge, built during medieval times, destroyed during the siege of the 1990s, and rebuilt to near-original form. We’ll stroll through alleys full of shops and stalls past some of the dozens of mosques.

That’s the end of our cycling but not of our exploration and unique experiences. We will travel by van across the mountains of Bosnia into Montenegro, following the scenic, fjord-like Bay of Kotor to the walled town of Kotor. We’ll have plenty of time to explore the old town on our own—and find out why it’s known as the City of Cats.

From Kotor we head back into Croatia, shuttling to the charming seaside town of Cavtat. Cavtat is the perfect place to enjoy seaside restaurants, easy walks, or swimming. And the sunsets are legendary. During the evening, we’ll drive into the countryside and enjoy a traditional farewell dinner in a centuries-old stone house—complete with wine and liquer tasting.

Cavtat is a short distance from the Dubrovnik airport, and you will be transferred to the airport on the final morning.

Daily program

Day 1: Ferry from Split to Korcula island
This morning you take morning jetty ferry from Split town (at 7:40am) to Korcula island. Arrival time to Korcua town is about 10:00am. Upon arrival to Korcula we do car shuttle (about 45 minutes) to Vela Luka town on the other side of the island.

In Vela Luka, after bike set up and briefing, we start with a bike ride along the island. The bike route takes us to the picturesque coast of Brna town, through wine growing areas of Smokvica, and the cliffs of Luka Pupnatska. From Pupnat we cross to the other side of the island where we follow a coastal road to Korcula town.

After some free time in Korcula town we head to our hotel.
Overnight in town Lumbarda or Korcula town
Meals included: picnic lunch

Day 2: Lumbarda – Peljesac peninsula – Ston (31 miles/50 km)
This morning we cycle a short distance to the ferry port for a transfer from Korcula island to Peljesac peninsula and the town of Orebic (about 20 minutes). From Orebic town, we continue about 15 km by car to avoid the busy roads to inland of the peninsula.

Near Potomje, we continue by bike around the peninsula. This route mostly follows the coastal road and wine growing areas, passing through old towns and farms, oyster bays and pine forests until we reach Ston. From Ston, we have a coastal drive from Ston to Dubrovnik (about 1 hour). After we check into our hotel, we have a free afternoon/evening to explore Dubrovnik on our own.
Overnight: Dubrovnik
Meals included: breakfast, picnic lunch

Day 3: Dubrovnik – Ravno (Bosnia & Herzegovina) (31 miles/50km)
From Dubrovnik, we continue towards the border with Bosnia & Herzegovina. After a short drive (20 minutes), we begin biking, crossing the border on two wheels.

In Ivanica we turn to the Ciro trail, a popular train route that has been converted into a bike trail. The Ciro trail follows the pretty countryside of Bosnia & Herzegovina up to Mostar.

Today we cycle about 50 km, mostly remote and rural areas, the route following the valley of Popovo Polje and river Trebišnjica. The terrain is very flat, with few cars. We spend the night in the small town of Ravno in a small hotel that used to be a train station.
Overnight in Ravno
Meals included: breakfast, picnic lunch

Day 4: Ravno – Mostar (56 miles/90km)
Another day in Bosnia & Herzegovina takes us further inland, towards beautiful town of Mostar. Riding from town Ravno, we cycle along the valley of Popovo Polje, by old villages and farms, rivers and lakes. Herzegovina is a land of wild beauty, and this bike route to Mostar is incredible.

Although today's ride is about 90km, it is mostly flat, especially the last 40 km by the river Neretva before Mostar town.
In the afternoon you have free time to explore the oriental center of Mostar.
Overnight in Mostar
Meals included: breakfast, picnic lunch

Day 5: Mostar – Kotor (no biking)
After our night in Mostar, we continue to Montenegro by car. The drive through a mountainous part of Bosnia and Montenegro takes about 3 hours, some of which will be along the bay of Kotor.

Today is a relaxing day, without a bike ride, and our suggestion is to explore Kotor old town on your own. If you like museums, go and visit the Maritime Museum of Kotor and St Tripun Cathedral. You can also walk the steps and city walls of Kotor.
Overnight in Kotor
Meals included: breakfast

Day 6: Kotor – Cavtat (no biking)
From Kotor we take a morning car shuttle back to Cavtat in Croatia. With the border crossing and drive, this transfer takes about 2 hours, but it leaves you plenty of time to see picturesque Cavtat located in a bay south of Dubrovnik. Cavtat is cool small town, the perfect place to enjoy seaside bars or restaurants, easy walks or swimming, watch the sunset or take a water taxi tour across the bay to Dubrovnik.

In the evening, the group will go to the Konavle countryside, farming land between Cavtat town and Montenegro border. At a family home we will be guests for dinner. Our host will show us around their hundreds of years old stone house with wine cellar, and after wine and liquor tasting, we enjoy a traditional dinner.

Late this evening, we return to Cavtat.
Overnight in Cavtat
Meals included: breakfast, dinner and wine tasting.

Day 7: Departure
Your tour ends after breakfast. Transfer to the airport in Dubrovnik is included.
