Daily Program
Day 1: Arrival in Oban
Make your way to Oban via train or bus from Edinburgh or Glasgow. Check-in on the Flying Dutchman starts at 6 pm, but if you arrive early, you’re welcome to drop off your bags and start exploring. If you’d rather not worry about logistics, there’s a transfer available at an extra cost from Edinburgh city center at 3:30 pm and from Edinburgh airport at 4 pm.
Once settled on the authentic tall ship, you’ll gather for a relaxed dinner on board where you’ll meet your guides and crew and get a taste of the week ahead. (Included: Dinner)
Day 2: Oban - Toberonochy - Crinan
22 mi. / 36 km
After breakfast on board, you’ll hop on your e-bike and pedal south through the rolling hills and lochside views of the Highlands. The route leads to a quiet peninsula where you’ll catch a ferry to Luing—an island famous for its shimmering slate. Much of Edinburgh’s historic architecture was built using stone from here!
At the tiny harbor village of Toberonochy, you'll rejoin your ship for the sail to Crinan, where you'll spend the evening. (Included: Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 3: Crinan - Island of Jura
23 mi. / 37 km
Today’s ride takes you into the heart of ancient Scotland. You’ll cycle to Kilmartin Glen, a landscape dotted with mysterious standing stones, prehistoric burial cairns, and stories of a past older than Stonehenge. After a break at the local museum café, it’s back to Crinan to board the ship.
From there, cruise past the famous Kintyre Peninsula—immortalized in Paul McCartney’s 'Mull of Kintyre'—and sail on to the wild and remote Isle of Jura. (Included: Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 4: Isle of Jura - Isle of Mull
17 mi. / 27 km
After breakfast, you’ll cycle north through the quiet Isle of Jura—once described by George Orwell, who lived here for three years, as one of the most remote places on earth. Enjoy the island’s deep tranquility, interrupted only by its 5,000 roaming deer.
After passing the striking Paps of Jura, you’ll reach a small jetty where the Flying Dutchman awaits to ferry you to the Isle of Mull. Along the way, you’ll pass the famous Corryvreckan Whirlpool—one of the world’s largest, but your experienced crew will navigate safely to a peaceful bay on Mull. (Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 5: Isle of Mull: Loch Spelve - Salen
32 mi. / 52 km
Today’s ride showcases the best of Scotland’s rugged beauty. You’ll cycle through gentle hills and along a dramatic coastline, with new sweeping views unfolding at every turn. The only companions on your route will be sheep and Highland cattle grazing in lush green fields.
Following the coastal road past Loch Na’Keal, you’ll reach the quiet village of Salen, where you’ll overnight at peaceful Salen Pier—perfect for catching a stunning sunset if the weather allows. (Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 6: Isle of Mull: Salen - Tobermory
31 mi. / 50 km
Today’s ride brings some steady climbing as you explore northern Mull. A cozy tearoom offers a perfect pause before you continue to the brilliant white sands and clear waters of Calgary Bay.
Your route back leads through gentle hills and a few steeper stretches before reaching Tobermory, the island’s colorful main town. A stop at a traditional pub is a must—treat yourself to classic fish and chips or even try Scotland’s famous haggis. (Included: Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 7: Isle of Mull: Tobermory - Glengorm Castle - Oban
12 mi. / 19 km
On your final cycling day, you’ll ride from Tobermory to the impressive Glengorm Castle, perched on the northern edge of the island. Take your time soaking in the views and enjoy a warm drink in the castle’s cozy café before heading back to the ship.
As the Flying Dutchman sails back to Oban, you’ll have one last chance to take in the coastline from the water. In town, there’s time for a stroll and perhaps a visit to McCaig’s Tower—Oban’s own take on the Roman Colosseum—before a final dinner together. (Included: Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 8: Departure from Oban
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to your crew, your ship, and this magical part of Scotland. (Included: Breakfast)
