Bike Tour Reviews  Bike And Boat With Bob And Jeanette Along The Danube From Passau To Budapest To Passau

Great way to know the center and southern Portugal. Wonderful sightseeing, nice people and great weather

    The good:

    1) The kind staff (Jose Carlos was great), 2) the transportation van, 3) the equipment (nice new MTB X-Caliber 9 TREK bikes, GPS and trackers), 4) the hotels, and 5) Certainly, the sightseeing

    The not so good:

    1) The package was sold as "luxury on wheels" and it was fairly good, but not "luxurious" in any way (except the price).
    2) They missed every opportunity to enrich the bike experience with greater knowledge and meaning. They give no written material (or verbal) with local tips, history, food recommendations, etc. Basically, they only provide a GPS that you should follow mindlessly.
    3) We spent 6 days with the tour, but slept in 3 hotels only. So, we had three days biking on "loops". We much prefer moving and discovering different places everyday, so biking two days in the same roads feels like a waste. In fact, we felt the tour could have been at least one day shorter (and cheaper) and not miss anything. Specially the first day back and forth in Grandola felt of low value added.
    4) The hotels are very nice and all had nice rooms and food, but are in located in the middle of the countryside and far away from everything. Only the last hotel was next to a town (Odeceixe) with the chance to walk, know the place and dine around. On the other two we felt a bit "trapped".
On the same idea, the tour is sold as "bike the coast", so we expected to have time to chill out on the beaches, specially at the end of biking journeys. We were wrong, as for the first four days the hotels were at 20 miles from the beaches.
    5) I understand Portugal is becoming more and more popular as a biking destination but is still far far away from other more established places. 80% of the biking was on paved two lane roads shared with cars and trucks going at high speeds (with a few truly nervewrecking miles north of Cercal) and dirt roads were in very poor condition (constant and unpleasant washboarding).

Prague to Venice - Fantastic Adventure

600 miles through the Czech Republic, Austria and Italy. Beautiful scenery, great food, excellent accommodations. One killer 7,500 ft. alpine pass, several off-road single track trails, numerous cobblestone streets, but mostly well maintained roads through jaw dropping mountain valleys. A must ride trip for serious bicycle tourists.

    Summer Excursion

Bike Tours is well thought out and executed so as travelers, we can enjoy the scenery, culture and people of the land. Germany is a great country to explore with a tour company like Bike Tours helping. Would certainly do it again with these folks.

    A Fun, Satisfying Trip

This ride along the Mosel River from Saarburg to Koblenz is fairly easy as it follows the downward flow of the river and whatever hills you encounter, either up or down, are easy to negotiate. We saw children doing it. Those in my group of seven were all seventy or older, the oldest being eighty-three. The double room on the barge was clean, comfortable and very adequate for two adult riders, much better than a similar trip taken in Holland a few years ago with a different company. The food at dinner was more than plentiful, beautifully presented and the staff could not have been nicer. The breakfast buffet was equally good with an unlimited number of choices. The scenery along the way is breathtaking and the villages right out of a book of fairy tales. I highly recommend this company and tour.

A very enjoyable trip for our family

Flat, scenic routes. Well maintained, scenic bike paths. Moderate mileage. Plenty of time to sightsee (Dessau, Wittenberg, Meisen and Dresden) and swim on warm days. Definitely doable for active seniors and younger. Two of us were 65 and four were 28-33 years old. Bikes were great. Breakfasts were buffet and filling. Dinners were adequate but uninspiring - we ate at the hotels where we were staying. One complaint about the hotel in Meissen...located right next to major church in town...heard bells all night...no air-conditioning! Ugh! Also, hotel in Torgau was subpar...and we paid for the A category of hotel. Lots of fascinating history and culture. Aside from the two hotels, a wonderful experience!

    Hamburg to Dresden biking

It was an enjoyable ride, mostly along the river Elbe. The route description package which I was given, was very helpful and detailed. I would have loved if you could upload the entire route on one of the bike apps (ridewithgps, strava, etc.) as it is sometimes easier to navigate with that, and keep track of the distance.
My only bad experience on the day on which I was reaching Dessau to Torgau. I had to stop a couple of times on my way for food, etc. and was lost once for taking a wrong turn. On top of that, my phone battery was dead. Combining all these, I reached quite late, a little after 10pm I believe, at my destination hotel. There was not greeted very nicely, as if it was an intentional delay on my side. The lady at the reception of the hotel made me talk with one of the representatives of biketours on phone. Although, she was very polite, but she too gave me an impression that I was completely at fault for the delay. As this kind of delays are not predictable, and can be unavoidable at times, I would recommend that the hotels which are being reserved are notified about this, and only those hotels are confirmed which are okay with this.

First but not last trip with you

I have never used a company, preferring to do it myself but your service here and in Austria was superb. I had bike issues that you quickly solved and the hotels and maps were great. Planning another trip next spring!

    Best family trip ever!

This trip was along the Danube on a paved bike path. It was great for our family, so we didn't have to worry about cars. It went through small towns but also hit the tourist highlights of the area. A great combination of riding and sightseeing! We all loved it!

Danube 9- day deluxe tour, self guided

This is a very nice tour. I have done it with my daughter for the 3rd time. (Lake Constance tour twice). The distances are relatively short, and flat. What I relly liked aout this tour is this: Almost every segnent allows for the option to take a boat or train to the next town. A boat ride or two is nice, especially in inclimate weather. Most hotels on Deluxe are airconditioned and the 2 or 3 others are cool enough unless temp over 94. Simon from Bike Tours is extremely helpful and returns all phone calls , if he doesnt answer himself, and responds to all emails. I cant say enough about how helpful Simon is. I highly recommend this tour
