Excellent routes. Beautiful. Some issues with service.

Dolomites to Trieste via Lake Bled at the Foot of the Julian Alps

The trip, overall, was wonderful. Beautiful views and great trails. We had a few problems communicating with the staff, which I’ll come back to.

The first day was gorgeous. Going through the Dolomites, on dedicated bike trails that were full of everything from serious riders to families with kids on bikes. Nice graduate downhill. Our ebikes used only 2 out of 5 bars on the battery indicator. Ended at a very small town, Oberdrauburg, which had a grocery, a few restaurants, and one of the best cake shops I have ever been to! But now much else to do.

The second day to Feistritz was a bit less exciting, we were on (mostly empty) roads about half the time, and again you end in a very small town. If it is warm, bring your swimsuit with you! You pass a lake with nice beaches and hundreds of people out sunning themselves. Closer to the Feinstritz, there was wonderful local outdoor swim club. After getting our swimsuits, we backtracked about 15 minutes to that swim club. A nice way to spend the late afternoon.

The third day was spectacular! The scenery was amazing, and the dedicated bike trails were also amazing. There is some uphill on this day, and a bit of easy road riding, but it ends a Bled which is stunning. We got to swim again.

The fourth day took a bit more concentration, with some time on bigger roads. Not too much traffic, but there were a few trucks. Ended at Cividale, which is a UNESCO World Heritage town that I had never heard of. Seeing Cividale was the big payoff for this day.

The fifth day was a lot on gravel roads through flat fields. Think Nebraska corn fields, but with grape vines. The biking was good exercise, but not so beautiful. However, Udine was another big surprise. A small town that was very much worth the time. Don’t take the shortcut that misses Udine! We ended at The Franz hotel, which has a pool that was very much appreciated after a hot day of biking.

The last ride was to Trieste. We decided to play it safe and do the inland route. It was actually quite beautiful, and we were happy to avoid the stress of cars on the coastal route. Once in Trieste, it was very hard to follow the route and to navigate the city. We loved the city, but just not on bikes. We stayed an extra day in Trieste and really enjoyed it. A beautiful city, that was not nearly as crowded as more well-known tourist spots in Italy.

Overall, the hotels were OK. The first three did not have A/C, and two of those had no elevator. We managed to carry our luggage to the third floor, but we were tired and hot. This is an issue only in the summer months. The heat while biking was not so bad, but some of the hotel rooms were around 80 degrees.

The app worked well for guidance except I had to learn that when it said “In 90 meters…” it really meant about 20 or 30 meters. And it occasionally got left and right backwards (I just followed the map on my phone). Still, it worked well. Do beware that it needs to be running constantly, so burns through power on your cell phone. I learned to be careful to stop it when we took breaks, and we switched to my wife’s phone mid-day.  SHOW MORE

Long days cycling and variable hotels

Sweden’s West Coast: Helsingborg to Gothenburg

The Swedish coast was beautiful and the people so friendly and helpful. The distances between hotels were too long even on e-bikes. We felt we didn’t get enough time to sightsee and explore each day. Hotels were variable
Elite molberg in Helsingborg was excellent
Best western angelholm room small and dark hotel hard to find.
    Profilhotel halmstad lovely big room
Hotel hamnagartan was very poor room tiny and not used to e bikes. Gravel made moving bikes and suitcases difficult
    Varbergstadshotel excellent
Best western Halland helpful staff but could not get bikes into their garage as no step free access
Elite plaza Gothenburg was good but annoying to have to take the bikes back to comfort hotel where the staff didn’t seem
    To
Know what to do with them

    Really special experience

Greenways of Girona Family Tour 5 Nights

We had our 9 year old on her own bike and 4 year old on back of dads. Really special experience. Between meals and biking and cooling off at pool or river from hot June sun there wasn’t much time in the day for sightseeing. Would have stayed more nights in Girona and st feliu if we did it again.

    Algarve Bike Ride

    Algarve Coastal Route

Overall we were quite happy with the experience. There were a couple of glitches which the on the ground team was able to rectify to get us on our happy way. The GPS system was where we had the most challenges as they did not always coincide with the written direction given us, which is why I only gave ease of navigation 3 stars and bikes and equipment 4 stars.

Most of the accommodation was excellent and all included breakfast. One hotel in particular The Villa Gale Ampalius was absolutely fabulous and had the best breakfast.

We were not expecting as much off road travel as we did. For the most part they were easy gravel hard packed road however, there are some sections that are for more experienced mountain bike riders which in a younger life would have been ok but certainly not at 70. I may have missed this part of the description of the tour notes when booking the trip in the first place.

Although, it would be a logistical nightmare for the tour group it would have been nice to have options to stay an extra night here or there. I know they do offer this up front. so keeping this in mind you may want to have an extra night in Tavira. The hotel is beautiful and sits in the main area of this gorgeous City making it easy to walk everywhere. We did get to the Real Villa de San Antonio a day before which Bike Tours happily arranged for us.

Our bags were always where they needed to be at the end of the day and the level of communication with the tour group was exceptional even when we needed to discuss some difficulties which, Angie, Fernando and Susana did an outstanding job of making things right. The E-bikes were easy to ride. The gearing made navigating hills easy. Even the hill on the last day was a breeze. The tour suggests what seems to be a much lesser climb however, we took the bigger of the two due to the not so easy looking off road option when we saw it.

The last day reads and seems like a lot however we were surprised at how fast we completed it. After viewing the light house we sat at the first food truck as you enter the beginning of the park and had one of the best burgers ever. Wish I could remember their trucks name. A husband and wife team run it. You won't be disappointed.

Generally speaking It was a nice way to experience the Algarve and now that we've done our first bike trip there will be others to follow.

    Beautiful, unique

    Florence to Rome

This tour was a great distance, deal, and experience. We loved visiting the small towns and exploring the unique parts of the countryside. The app was helpful for navigation and the accommodations were nice, although they varied a lot in their offerings and quality in each place. I wish we had more information about food and town stops along the way - many restaurants were closed as we moved through the towns, and in 105 degree F heat, the lack of access to rest stops and water was very challenging!

    Holand with friends anf family

Best of Holland South: Canals, Windmills & Historic Towns

This was a great exerience! 2 families with teeangers, and we all had a great time. The rides on Holland are very easy, all flat terrain, navigation is very simple.
The ride is great but on the fort 2 days it does follow a lot of car ways, so you do get to pedal a log time next to hignways and roads in very long straight lines. Our first trip in Austria the cycle paths did go well into forests, and areas where you could only cicle or walk, with lots small little paths that made it very unique as you did feel that if you where not in a bike you would had never seen those areas. Never the less this was beautiful, and it did get better every day, scenery, riden a small ferry, and moni adventures like taht that actually makes this ttip more fun. All very well organized, hotels were on the top end and all where really great, charming, great locations once you were in the actual city or town, which these were all amazing! We added going oof the path and having lunch on the actual beach on our last day, and that was great! It made us really appreciate all sort of terrains in Holland. We loved it!

    What An Adventure!!

    Florence to Rome

It was an amazing way to experience Umbria! We were on the self-guided tour from Florence to Rome. There were four of us, all women, and we had the BEST time! It was beautiful, we saw things we could not have seen any other way. We had random experiences that couldn’t have happened on a train or in a car. It was HOT!! The first two days were around 100° F and that was tough. Two of us were on E-bikes and we were super grateful for that! The E-bikes were pedal assist, so we still were pedaling all the time. Considering how hilly it was, including one legitimate mountain pass, combined with the heat I don’t know that I would’ve survived on a regular bike. The hotels were all nice, having our luggage moved each day for us was great. We had an app that gave us turn by turn directions, which was also its own adventure. I think the only really tricky part is that it can be very difficult to find places open for lunch in the midday in Italy. We weren’t as ready for that! Thank goodness for the kebab shop that saved us the first day and for Panini Despetti the second day! Overall, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever asked my body to do; it was also the greatest adventure!! A dream come true for me and I’m so grateful for all of it! Most of all I’m grateful for the friends I convinced to join me on this wild ride!!!

Lovely Cycle Through the Czech & Saxon Countryside!

Prague to Dresden Along the Vltava & Elbe Rivers

This trip was a great way to experience Czechia & Saxony! We absolutely loved cycling through the countryside, enjoying the bucolic farmlands and winding along the river. There were some stretches that were through more industrial areas, which weren't the most pleasant. There were also more hilly and off-road stretches than we experienced on our Danube bike tour a few years ago. Except for a few times in more urban/busy areas, the routes were relatively car-free and felt safe. The Ride with GPS app really helped with navigation-- we loved it! It was nice to be able to glance down at our phones and know that we were on track.

Our favorite times were cycling through Czech farmlands, enjoying the diverse birds we found there, including red kites, red-backed shrike, Eurasian skylark and wagtails. We also enjoyed exploring the towns of Litomerice, Decin, and Bad Schandau. We did two hikes in the Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland National Park. The first hike was in the Czech part of the park, out of Hrensko, a tacky tourist town. Unfortunately there had been a recent wildfire, so the hike was very exposed, and once we got to the top it felt very commercialized, with gift shops and overpriced restaurants. The next day we hiked in the German side of the park, out of Rathen, which had stunning scenery and actually felt like a national park. We would recommend this hike over the first.

Overall our accommodations were very good, in quiet, clean, comfortable hotels with nice breakfast spreads. Our favorite hotels were in Prague (Hotel Clement) and Litomerice (Pension Dubina). Our bikes were excellent, suited to both on and off road cycling. It was easy to communicate with our tour guides through the WhatsApp group chat.

Overall we would recommend this bike trip to others!

    Amazing experience

    Best of Catalonia Cycle Touring

My brother and I did a self led tour, and I can't say enough great things about our experience. Daniel, the owner, met us on Day 1 and gave a very thorough briefing and overview. He was available throughout the journey and such a joy to interact with as needed. Seeing Catalonia from city to sea to country was absolutely fabulous, albeit a bit hot given our chosen tour dates! Would absolutely recommend to anyone.

    Great scenery, fascinating history

    Medieval Heritage of Transylvania

    The good:
Most of this tour was like stepping into a beautiful alternate reality where the hustle of modern life doesn't apply. We saw loads of horse drawn wagons, shephards tending to their flocks of sheep, community wells, and very little modern "progress". The food was amazing, the housing was awesome, the local tour company was more than responsive and super helpful.
This trip doesn't have bike paths. The very beginning of the ride and a good bit of the last day is on busy roads. The rest of the tour is on extremely rural roads.
Many places the water wasn't drinkable. Not a huge problem, but you do have to plan ahead (buy water). Unlike other European bike trips we've taken there weren't coffee shops/restaurants/gas stations for breaks.
We loved talking to the guest house owners and hearing their view on the history and culture of Transylvania.
If you want to get off the beaten path this is a great trip.

    Marvellous route

    Cycling Spain's Ebro River

A great tour, very scenic, great hospitality.
We were at wonderful places, we'd never found ourselves. It felt safe all the eay with few cars - only exception was the short route to Laguardia. Only twice we had to pull the bikes (not e-) uphill.
The personel was exceptional helpful and engaged. The variety in hotels, places. dinners etc. was very fine.

    Fantastic e-Bike Tour!

Great Pyrenees and Costa Brava E-Bike Tour

Even in the midst of a incredible heat wave, we had an amazing time. We had never used ebikes before, and it was awesome to have those bikes with some of the climbs that we had to do. The e-bikes made it totally enjoyable. We had our 18-month-old puppy along and even with the heat she did okay. The last day was incredible with 36 miles of trails that were completely shaded! The hotels were wonderful, the food was amazing, only one hotel had failing air conditioning. But we survived and loved every minute of it. The small towns were incredible and the people we met were very warm and friendly. Hoping to do another one sometime!
This was by far the most organized tour that we have done. The bike shop in Girona was absolutely amazing and helpful.

Delicious Rich Foods and Gorgeous Vistas

Dordogne Valley: Between the Dordogne and Lot Rivers

We had 7 days of warm weather as the backdrop to the tour of the beautiful countryside of the Dordogne region. The ride and several climbs which were challenging for me on a regular in the unusual warmth in June (especially on the 2nd day on Monday). My wife was on an electric assisted bike and was rather comfortable. We were mainly on small roads or farm roads, so we did not experience much car traffic.
We made a loop starting from Les Eyzies and went through 5 other small towns and cities. We visited mills, castles, and natural attractions such as the caverns at Padirac and prehistoric cliff dwellings in Roque Saint-Cristophe. The main attractions are the beautiful vistas over the Dordogne river valley.
We fueled our rides with full breakfasts at the hotel. For lunches we picnicked some days and ate at restaurants or cafés on the route. We were rewarded each evening with a dinner of delicious foods from the region which include duck, paté, and rocamadour cheese - all appetizingly presented.
Our guide was great: warm, conversant, and completely knowledgeable about the region. We had a rollicking time with our fellow tour members.

    Trip to remember!

    Lake Constance Bicycle Path

Four of us did the self guided tour around Lake Constance. The scenery and the towns were so cute! Three nights of the hotel stays were great, but unfortunately two of them were well below standard. When doing this trip make sure you say that you don't want to stay in Vis-à-vis in Lindau (right opposite the train station) and in Hotel Frohsinn in Arbon (currently busy with construction) and the noise started at 7:15am :( Will I recommend doing this bike ride: Yes!!! The bikes were in great condition and you will have the opportunity to eat a lot of wonderful gelato! Oh, all the hotels gave breakfast and it was great!!
