The Best Way to Experience the Countryside Between Innsbruck and Vienna
Innsbruck to Salzburg: Through the Alps Along River Cycle Trails
This was a very well organized and well thought out way to experience the beautiful countryside between Innsbruck and Vienna. Chris at the bicycle rental shop in Innsbruck was very helpful and provided us with handlebar mounts for our phones to easily view GPS tracks, bicycle repair tools (including tire levers, spare inner tube, patch kit, hand pump, and CO2 inflator) and lock and pannier bags. Bicycles have been well maintained and were well suited for this tour. My wife used an e-bike whereas I used a 24 speed hybrid bicycle with a triple crankset giving me a wide range of gearing just in case it got hilly. Accommodations were good, mostly lodging facilities intended for winter skiing, with very good European breakfasts and excellent Austrian coffee. Our luggage was always available at the hotel when we arrived. I am 70 years old and have toured by bicycle throughout the United Staes since my teenage years but I found this tour far more enjoyable since the route we took was mostly on paved or crushed stone bicycle paths without auto traffic to deal with (in the United States I have bicycled through many beautiful national and state parks but have always had to deal with automobile traffic making it more difficult to enjoy the natural beauty). On this tour there are a few miles (but only a few miles) where we did need to ride with auto traffic in the cities. There are also some backroads and roads through neighborhoods that have very little auto traffic. There were a few very minor hiccups with the GPS tracks and the bicycle path signage. Although we found the GPS tracks very useful, on very rare occasion there were times that the GPS tracks did not perfectly match with the bicycle path signage which led to a little confusion but this was easily resolved after checking Google Maps. It was great that a shuttle was provided from Zell am Ziller to Krimml since the highway between these two towns is fairly steep and narrow with lots of auto traffic. The shuttle also got us to Krimml in time for us to hike up to the Krimml waterfalls. It was also nice that the shuttle took us to a higher elevation which resulted in a down hill coast on our bicycles the next morning. We were fortunate to have a layover day in Zell am See since it was the only day to rain on this tour. Although we are comfortable riding in the rain it is something we like to avoid which can be challenging to do in Austria. There were also a couple of minor hiccups with our lodging but these were quickly resolved by a phone call to Helmut Wagner, the bicycle tour operator. When we arrived at the hotel in Zell am See there was no one at the reception desk and we later found out we needed to go to the hotel next door to check in. When we arrived in at the hotel in Salzburg we were told by the reception personnel that we would need to pay for our room but again a phone call to Helmut Wagner quickly resolved this issue. I mention these minor inconveniences so one is prepared to be flexible and not to panic since these issues are easily resolved. Overall, the experience was most enjoyable and the scenery amazing. I strongly recommend this tour for anyone that enjoys bicycle touring through very scenic mountain valleys and historic towns. I am thankful that biketours.com has vetted this tour and made it easy and affordable to experience. Lake Constance Bicycle Path
We had a bit of a slow start with the bicycle company & the bicycles. They were not as prepared as the former bike tour/company we biked with the week before.
The majority of the trails were great! Some gravel, but not bad.
The tour itself was fantastic! The cities and things and places we saw were amazing! The hotels and breakfasts were top notch!!
Convenience of WC was great!

Love those Dolomites!
Dolomites to Trieste via Lake Bled at the Foot of the Julian Alps
We had a wonderful experience on this trip. The guide was easy to work with and very helpful. There was one route that was closed and not easy to navigate. I would say that is our only criticism - the GPS should have been updated. It made for a long day. Overall, it was just an incredible route.

Nice Trip
Vienna to Budapest (Classic)
The lodging was very nice. Provided Meals were good to very good. The provided bike was very good but developed shifting issues and tire rubbing issues as the trip went on. Since some group members got ebike upgrades, the operator worked on mine as he delivered the new bikes.
This trip needs to run in the opposite direction. The prevailing wind is just too strong at times. I was warned of that before the trip but took a chance on it. We really struggled at times. That also took away from the time we had for sightseeing. We wanted to explore sights along the way but didn't have the time as we tried to get to the next town at a reasonable time. If we had been going the opposite direction life would have been lots better. Also, we all paid for dinners, but two of us were told our dinners had not been paid for and we would have to pay for them. After much arguing we got our dinners but it was very awkward and uncomfortable. - ★★★★★ Francine D.

Danube Discovery: Bike and Boat through Enchanting Capitals
We really enjoyed the additional excursions we booked. They were excellent. We are happy we rented e bikes since some of the cycling was longer than we normally do, the assist was a plus! The cycling on our 2nd day proved to be a challenge since we and others got lost several times making us late and miss the tour we had booked for Bratislava.
We found out that if one gets hurt or that their bike breaks down that there isn't any rescue service which would be necessary. All in all the staff was great, the food very good and our room service kept our room nice and clean.. - ★★★★★ Tony Shubart
Enjoyable biking tours

Overall good experience. Had some hiccup pre-departure as the operator made a mistake on our one way transfer from Vienna to Passau and had to find our own transport last min, which we managed. Bikes were good quality and map app was easy to follow with a little help with Google map to get to the hotel sometime. The luggage forwarding was seamless. Some hotels are better than the others. We had a reasonable expectation of the upscale four stars so didn’t anticipate any luxury. They are good clean hotels that covers the basics and most of them are in good location except one due to book-out of the normal one they use.
We feel certain things can be improved but overall is a lovely experience even two days were raining.Overall we feel it was

Great route

A great route - varied and spectacular scenery. We were very lucky with weather but September is a great month for this trip because of apple and grape harvesting. Hotels were all good with one exception. Breakfasts good also. Bike equipment very good.

I was disappointed in the bike fitting (cancelled by tour company) and we had concerns and little support for adjustments. Fantastic trip!

This was our 3rd ride with Biketours. It was a fantastic and enjoyable as the previous 2. The local tour company did a great job with the app and book for navigation. The upscale lodging was just that. All fantastic and of course the European breakfast can't be beat. The Danube path was mostly flat, well-marked, and full of highlights—Passau’s charm, the Wachau Valley, Melk Abbey, and Vienna’s grandeur. Daily luggage transfers made travel easy, and we enjoyed the freedom to stop for coffee, pastries, or wine tastings whenever we wanted. Comfortable inns, great food, and stunning scenery made each day memorable. Arriving in Vienna by bike felt like a real accomplishment. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a scenic, flexible, and stress-free cycling vacation.

Great Trip Along The Danube

What a great trip. Great weather, easy to follow routing, bike paths most of the way and very few hills!!
The accommodations were perfect, and the choice of towns and cities to overnight in were great.

A ride on the river
Danube Bike Path 8 Nights (Upscale Lodging)
A great trail averaging 30 miles/day for 7 days of riding. Most of the trail was well marked , paved and no cars. Most along the river but some going thru cobblestone streets in small towns, farm fields, orchards , vinyards or woods. The accommodations were mostly first class . Rooms in Tulln Best Western were tiny but Great hotels in Vienna and Durnstein. Large, very good breakfasts everywhere we stayed. We looked at both barge and hotel based trips and were very glad we chose hotels as it allowed us to more easily see the towns we were staying in. Most of the people we saw were on electric bike but 5 in our group had pedal bikes with no problems. We were fortunate as the weather was cool with no rain.
Our hardest time was navigating thru Vienna streets, bike paths to get to our hotel which was great location and worth the hassle.
Highly recommend this trip. Already looking for another trip a year from now.

Smoothest bike tour ever.
Danube Bike Path 7 Nights (Classic)
The riding was almost all downhill. We had a variety of hotel styles that were all clean. The routes along the way weaved through differing scenery. Tour operator gave us great support in dealing with a tire problem. They contacted a near by bike shop and the shop was waiting for us to quickly change out the tire when we arrived. Navigation was sometimes challenging in the canyons of city buildings but that was due to weak GPS signals so it was fun to just look around and figure it out. Similarly, while rafting the Grand Canyon our GPS showed us floating over monsterous bluffs.
Over all I recommend that if you have the health and the savings, you should do this now while either one is gone.

Danube ride to 3 capitols

We had a great time on our ride down the Danube. The hotels were excellent. The towns we stayed in were interesting. We rode 50-60 miles a day which was a good distance. We rode from Vienna to. Budapest. I would go on a longer trip next time

Krimml to Salzburg in 3 days
Tauern Bike Path (Krimml-Passau)
This was our 2nd time to ride the Tauern Bike Path. This time, however, we shortened it to 3 days - Krimml to Salzburg, spent a few days in Salzburg and then to Prague by train. All 3 riding days were superb in displaying God's magnificence. Day 2, Zell am See to Lofer, was definitely the best of the 3 days. Hotels were superb in every way, even accommodating our request for gluten free and lactose free options for my wife at breakfast. Gasthof Hochmoos in Lofer is my all time favorite hotel in Europe, from accommodations to scenery and location. An easy downhill ride, but e-bikes make the trip more leisurely for any level of biker. There are a few short climbs but nothing too demanding. Happy to serve as a guide for anyone needing a helping hand!!!!

Amazing trip

We had never been to Austria or northern Italy before and this was the perfect way to experience this region. The biking was almost all on bike paths and not difficult. The scenery was incredible. The accommodations were comfortable and well paced along the route. I would do this same trip 100 more times and find something new to explore each trip. The scenery was stunning. We loved every minute of it (even the day in the rain) and would book with this again 100%.

Retirement at its best

This was our second trip with biketours.com and did they deliver. We had a great trip. The Bikes were excellent and Hotels were very nice. Great job. The only issues we had was finding the starting points in town. It was very challenging go say the least. A suggestion if I can: A pin on Google maps of starting point would have helped immensely. That aside it was the trip of a life time. Great work bike tours.com. Our appreciation for all those involved with setting this tour up.
