Tour description

The Milano Helvetia is a long established, family-run hotel located in the popular seaside town of Riccione and only 15 minutes from Rimini airport. During the summer it is a busy beach holiday hotel, but during spring and autumn months the hotel welcomes cyclists, offering a fully guided bike holiday service. The hotel offers between 1 and 3 different daily guided groups (dependent on the number of participants) riding to the nicest destinations in the area on the prettiest, least congested roads.

English-speaking guides will take you to beautiful destinations including Republic of San Marino, Urbino, San Leo and many more in the surrounding countryside, passing through quaint hilltop villages and towns along the way. It's a beautiful area and one that many guests, after discovering it, return to year after year.

The hotel offers everything a cyclist needs: guided bike tours, secure bike storage, bike rental, laundry of bike clothing, and delicious food with either the beach or pool to relax by after your days ride!

Prices include full board accommodation and include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also included in the price is wi-fi, use of the Turkish bath, solarium… and if you want a single room, should we have one available, unlike most hotels you won’t pay a supplement for it!

We are also happy to accommodate non-cycling partners. There are many things to do within the area, markets in Rimini and Riccione, wine tasting in Spadarolo, cheese tasting in Mondaino or a visit to San Marino. Bring the kids. There's the beach and the local aquaparks and centers.

*This tour is possible during July and August, but due to the peak travel months in Italy, pricing is upon request. Please inquire for further details.

Special packages available:

Nove Colli Gran Fondo, 2019 - Are you more of a competitive cyclist or just looking for a new challenge and experience? Why not try a Gran Fondo, Italian style, the biggest of which is the Nove Colli in late May. Registration deadline is April 1, 2018.

If you think 215km and 4000m sounds too much, there is also a Medio Fondo of 135km and 1900m to select and you can decide which you choose on the ride itself along with 10,000 plus other cyclists. The Nove Colli package on our Dates & Prices page includes registration for this sold-out race event.

Can't make it in May but want to ride a Gran Fondo? The Nove Colli is Italy's most famous Gran Fondo but there are others throughout the season so don't hesitate to contact us, tell us your preferred dates, and we will try and source another event for you to ride!

Looking for a Ladies Only tour? If you and 4 (or more!) of your best riding friends wish, Hotel Milano Helvetia will provide a guide just for your group! The details of the tour remain the same, but you'll have the fun of a private guided, ladies only experience. Please inquire for pricing.

Interested in Castles and Culture as well as regional cycling? Well, there's an option for you as well. Take some time off the bike for scenery, history, and plenty of photo opportunities. Possible destinations include The Republic of San Marino, Montefiore Conca, Gradara, Tavoleto and Urbino. You can book additional activities like wine tastings for additional cost. Please inquire for pricing.

Daily program

There are many different destinations possible from our base here in Riccione. San Marino, San Leo, Urbino, Mondaino and many more besides - and there are many different ways to get to each!!!

For example, we have tours to San Marino between 40 miles (65 km) and 68 miles (110 km) so the groups that ride less distance do not miss out on the nice destinations. Here at the Milano we will devise a programme to suit our guests each and every week and take you to all the best places on the prettiest roads with the best views and scenery.

The hotel organizes between 1 and 3 daily groups dependent on the amount of cyclists within the hotel. The rides vary according to the ability level with the longer rides at a faster pace with harder climbing while the other tours will be ridden at a more sedate speed and normally shorter allowing you to take your time, enjoy the countryside, relax a little more and take life a little easier. All tours involve a coffee stop which will usually be approx mid-way through the tour and at a castle town or pretty village.

Our guides will welcome you on your arrival day and plan a medium level tour as a warm up for your first day so that you may see what the area and surrounding terrain is like. Now you know what to expect we can then devise and confirm the weeks programme, including daily distances and climbing meters so you may plan your week ahead and know which days to save the most energy for!!!

'Giro Medio' (medium distance ride)

Day 1: Panoramica Strada (40 miles/65 km)
Day 2: Urbino (63 miles/102 km)
Day 3: Mondaino (41 miles/66 km)
Day 4: Sant’Arcangelo (39 miles/63 km)
Day 5: San Marino (48 miles/77 km)
Day 6: Mercatino Conca (42 miles/68 km)
Day 7: Panoramic Reverse (38 miles/61 km)
Day 8: Individual departure

‘Giro Lunga’ (longer, faster & harder ride)

Day 3: Mondaino (49 miles/79 km)

Day 5: San Marino (54 miles/87 km)
Day 6: Cippo (84 miles/135 km)
Day 7: Panoramic Reverse (51 miles/82 km)

These schedules represent a typical weeks programme but are not set in stone and just show an example of what we can offer. If neccessary and numbers sufficient then additional rides are arranged.

Exceeded all my expectations

Beautiful routes with a good variety of flat and hilly terrain originating from a very fun Italian beach resort. We happened to be there at the beginning of Summer festivities when weather is fantastic, water is warm, and people are out at night enjoying time off.

Our guide Steve was able to share his GPX files with us, so even though we were on a self-guided tour - we had voice-guided directions courtesy of RideWithGPS.com based off of Steve's GPX routes. Nice to have a peace of mind knowing that you don't have to pull your phone at every intersection to figure out where to to turn next.

Stunning views, great warm people, great food and quite decent bikes. Italian drivers are very aware and respectful of cyclists, so we felt a lot safer on Italian roads than we do here in the States.
