    • Cycle through scenic West Flanders

Bike out of Bruges' bustling center and into Flanders' famous landscapes on this Bruges to Dutch Border Bike Tour. This family-friendly day tour begins in Bruges' center before heading north through the flat lowlands towards the Dutch border, on a route replete with idyllic countryside scenes, stopping in the town of Damme and at a local Belgian bar.

Ride into the rustic landscapes of West Flanders, through fields filled with poppies, along coursing canals. Cycling along, your guide will acquaint you with the history of the region, including the weaving trade, ports, and canals that made this area one of the richest and most urbanized in all of Europe during the Middle Ages. Your guide will also be able to explain the poignant importance of the red poppies that bloom in Flanders' rolling fields every year.

The beautiful farmland that stretches as far as the eye can see is dotted with traditional Belgian windmills, some of which still turn, as working pieces of living history. Pedaling towards the picturesque town of Damme, you'll immediately notice how the Reie River runs into the tree-lined Damse Vaart canal, a clue to the significant role this small town once played as Bruges's port.

Get a glimpse into this preserved pocket of traditional Flemish culture as you ride around the narrow streets and the pointed towers of the town hall. Scholarly cyclists on this bike tour will be delighted by the profusion of bookshops here, since Damme is renowned for its literary culture. To conclude your sightseeing in Damme, you'll make a stop at a local bar for a half-hour break to refresh yourself with a Belgian beer and chat with your fellow bikers, before heading back at a leisurely pace towards Bruges.
