Ride with the waves

Take a ride by the seaside on the charming Brighton Coastal Bike Tour, a leisurely cycle along the Undercliff Path from the resplendent Royal Pavilion to picturesque Rottingdean, with beautiful beachside vistas all along the way. This family-friendly day tour, with the added bonus of bike rental, is a quintessentially British bicycle ride perfectly capturing the essence of the English seaside.

Pushing off through the Pavilion Gardens you’ll ride past the resplendent Royal Pavilion, one of Brighton’s iconic landmarks and the seaside pleasure palace of King George IV. The Royal Pavilion is a legendary symbol in Brighton, boasting majestic minarets, enormous domes, and staggering pinnacles seeming to pierce the sky above. A simply unmissable landmark, you’ll have time to take plenty of photos for Brighton’s page in your photo album.

As you reach the stunning Brighton seafront, you’ll find yourself facing another icon of the city - Brighton Palace Pier. A favorite holiday destination of millions of Brits and foreign tourists every year, the seafront is regarded as a ‘pleasure beach’, a traditional British seaside resort of carnival rides, arcades, striped deck chairs and ice cream parlors. This is a timeless landmark on the English coast - one that never loses its allure and charm. You’ll also notice the skeletal structure of the ruined West Pier, and learn from your guide all about its curious history. As you head eastwards, your guide will point out the world’s oldest public aquarium, as well as the world’s oldest electric railway!

Pedaling onwards towards the Undercliff Path, you’ll bike through Brighton Marina, where you’ll have a beautiful view of the brightly colored boats as they undergo the repairs needed to ride the waves another day. From here, you’ll join the picturesque Undercliff Path, an impressive promenade beneath the romantic white cliffs reaching towards Rottingdean. This is a glorious stretch of cycling, with the crashing of the waves and shuffling of the shingle providing an atmospheric sound-bath as you take in the wide-open ocean vistas.

Once you reach the charming village of Rottingdean, the tour will rest at a seafront pub or cafe, and you’ll have the option to relax on the beach, and even take a swim! Once you’re ready to turn back to base, you’ll pedal along the Undercliff Path, with the option of taking the high road along Marine Parade for spectacular panoramic views. For a spot of city sightseeing before you arrive back on New Road, your guide will lead you through The Lanes - a labyrinthian area of quaint cafes, independent stores, and charming eateries loved by locals and tourists alike.
