The river Main begins in the Franconian forests, where the White Main and Red Main meet to form one majestic river. The Main flows through the Upper Main Valley – known as “God’s Garden,” through romantic and historic cities, into wine country, and finally ending when it meets the river Rhine.
Woodland meadows alternate with vineyards as the dominating scenery along the trail. The region’s long and ever-changing history left behind many castles, fortresses, monasteries, churches, and chapels.

The Main River Bike Path was Germany’s first cycle path to receive a five-star rating. Outstanding signposts mark the way make navigation simple. Cyclist-oriented accommodation gives cyclists a place to park their bike at night, and some even provide maintenance if needed!
The bike routes in this region are mostly traffic-free on well-maintained, mainly asphalt paths. The countryside is primarily flat, making riding easy and well-suited for families with children.
