Tour description

Let yourself be enchanted by this spectacular cruise in the heart of the Mediterranean sea. You will discover the pearls of Sicily, the extraordinary Aeolian islands, in a new and different way. During this week, on board of a caicco, you will discover the seven islands of volcanic origin, today part of the Unesco World Heritage.

Starting from Milazzo, you will reach the island of Vulcano, where you will first experience the volcano activities. Navigating on wonderful crystalline water, the journey continues to Panarea, with its large rocky ridges of Basiluzzo and Lisca Bianca. Then, we will enjoy one of the amazing highlights of this holiday, the "Sciara del Fuoco," an unforgettable natural show. In the background the continuous and rhythmic explosive activity of the Vulcan Stromboli, or "Iddu" ("Him") how the locals call him.

We will then head towards Salina, where you should not forget to have a "granita" at Alfredo's! Finally, we will enjoy a circular tour on the charming island of Lipari, whose village is full of nice restaurants and shops.

Welcome on board: be ready to experience a truly active journey intended to combine navigation and relaxation with cycling and walking tours, to enjoy the wonders of the Aeolian Islands.

Response to Tania

I have read the response to my review and must point out that two of the points made by Tania are not true. I was struggling the first day as the trip I signed up for was rated 2 (it has since been re-rated a 3 which is more accurate). However, the guide never offered me an e-bike. I would have taken it if he had but he could not have provided one at that point as we only had 6 bikes on the boat and 6 riders. It is also false that we were asked to vote about hiking versus biking. The daily program was presented as a fait accompli and no votes were asked for or cast. It is entirely possible that Beppe was having an off week but I and my friend found him to be unpleasant, hard to communicate with and I would not willingly travel with him again.

Beautiful islands, great guide

Pros:

The boat is beautiful and well-maintained. Our cabin was perfect, with its own bath/shower

Vera is a talented, delightful guide. The bikes were great. We really enjoyed the other members of our tour. The captain knew his stuff, and adjusted the order in which we visited each island, since the weather was stormy on a few days. The food served to us on the boat was excellent.

Cons:

We were all disappointed that, although it appears to be a sailboat, the sails are a prop. We motored everywhere we went.

Two of the crew smoked, both in port and at sea. Though they went outside, the smoke blew all over.

The rating on biketours.com indicated a level 2. The Aeolian Islands are volcanos....big giant pointy hills. The tour company rates the tour a 3.5. One day was 20 km at an 8% grade. Hardly a 2....

A Mixed Bag

The boat and the crew were great but the experience was not so good. The biking was mostly hills and, other than the last day, not good. Lots of up to a so-so view. Lots of traffic as well. There were three days of hiking and three days of biking, not what I had signed up for. Our guide was awful. His English was not good and he seemed bored by the whole thing. Lots of misinformation. I have done a number of tours through biketours.com and so far this is the only one I have been disappointed in.
