Tour description

You'll be welcomed by the crew of La Belle Fleur for this 5-day tulip getaway. From Amsterdam, you'll cruise and cycle through some of the old cities known for showcasing Dutch life.

Zaanse Schans, Spaarndam, the North Sea, Haarlem, Keukenhof, Leiden, Kudelstaart, and Aalsmeer are just a few of the highlights of this itinerary. Let your hosts take you on a springtime journey you won't soon forget.

Daily program

Note: this tour starts on a cycling day. We recommend you arrive at least one day in advance.

Day 1: Embarkation in Amsterdam, cycling to Zaanse Schans/Zaandam (22 miles/35 km)
At noon the crew of La Belle Fleur welcomes you on board in Amsterdam. During lunch you can meet your fellow travellers and the tour guide. In the afternoon you bike trough the nature to the museum village of Zaanse Schans to visit the mills there. After this visit you will find La Belle Fleur in Zaandam.

Day 2: Spaarndam – Haarlem (16 miles/25 km)
After breakfast La Belle Fleur sets sail to Spaarndam. After the locks of Spaarndam, your cycle trip of the day starts. The journey takes you to the North sea beaches. There you have the time to enjoy a beach walk and afterwards you bike to the city of Haarlem. This old city is famous for its courtyards. Many of these you can visit and by doing this you will get a view of the typical Dutch way of live. But Haarlem is more than that. Its monuments and old houses are a beautiful sight to see.

Day 3: Cycling to Lisse and Leiden (28 miles/45 km)
Today your bike trip starts in the direction of Lisse, you can visit the most famous garden of Holland, the Keukenhof. There you can enjoy the tulip fields in all forms, shapes and colors.

Afterwards you continue your cycle tour to Leiden. In the afternoon you can stop by one of the many tulip fields and enjoy a walk through it. You can play with the tulip leaves that are left behind on the fields and make the most beautiful pictures.

After dinner you can visit the old city with the guide. Leiden is so beautiful that it received the UNESCO protection title for the complete old city, which contains the oldest university of Holland, but also the birth houses of many of the Dutch masters like Rembrandt, Lucas van Leyden and Jan Steen.

Day 4: Leiden – Kudelstaart (22 miles/35 km)
When you say Holland, you say more than tulips, so today we are going the Dutch way. During the bike tour we stop at a cheese farm, where you can learn everything about the process of cheese making and live on the farm. We spend the night at Kudelstaart, a small village near Aalsmeer.

Day 5: Aalsmeer – Amsterdam (14 miles/22 km)
Today we have an early start. We start the day with a visit to the tulips auction in Aalsmeer. This auction is the biggest flower auction in the world.

Afterwards you come back at the ship as La Belle Fleur reaches Amsterdam again and you can enjoy the old West part of Amsterdam from the sun deck. Once the ship is moored the guide takes you for a walk around Amsterdam, enjoy the beautiful old canal houses or "grachtenpanden," but also the small streets of the old city center. After coffee the crew of La Belle Fleur says you goodbye and wishes you a safe journey home.

Delightful in every way

We had an incredible, knowledgeable, energetic guide. Our barge accommodations were cozy and the food delicious and generous.

Great host

The boat was amazing. However, the guide was less than acceptable - she had not done the tour before. When we brought this to the boat owner he immediately made adjustments to address the concerns

Exceeded my expectations!

The tulip tour on La Belle Fleur surpassed my expectations. It was a wonderful way to experience the back roads and small towns of Holland. Our guide was wonderful, the group was small (less then 20 people) and the daily bike rides were a lot of fun. The barge featured small, but clean and efficient cabins. The dining room and above deck open air lounge were good places to relax after long rides. The food was absolutely delicious! I strongly recommend this trip. It was a great value and very, very memorable.

Tiptoe through the tulips!

This was a great way to see different parts of The Netherlands in a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. We went at an easy pace so that we could take in the sights as we were riding. The flowers and tulips were in bloom in the first week of April, and I'm sure in the weeks to come there will be even more tulips! The activities were great, especially the gardens. The hospitality from the crew of La Belle Fleur was excellent, and our guide was very knowledgeable. Sleeping on the boat meant you could unpack a little and it was great not needing to pack up the suitcase each morning. Meals were delicious. This is a great tour, very well priced, and definitely worth going on.
