Tour description

**All 2018 dates are fully booked. Watch for 2019 tour dates.**

A Danish song is titled "Fyn er fin," meaning that the island of Fyn is a fine place to be. The term fine can be used in lots of connections on Fyn – and an obvious one is the fine arts.

Fyn houses a variety of art museums and galleries, and this tour takes you to a collection of some of the best.

The tour also visits the towns Middelfart, Assens, and Faaborg. We recommend you spend a day going from Odense to Kerteminde (and return) where you will find the Johannes Larsen Museum – a museum dedicated to one of Fyn's great native painters.

In Odense you can visit the art museum Brandts Klædefabrik, in Middelfart the really interesting "CLAY Museum of Ceramic Art Denmark" awaits you, and in Faaborg you should pay a visit to Faaborg Museum and its collection of art.

Don’t forget to visit other local galleries and art and crafts along the route.

Daily program

Day 1: Arrival to Odense
Arrive on your own to Odense and prepare for an exciting tour. If you have booked a rental bike you will find it at the hotel.
Overnight in Odense

Day 2: Odense – Middelfart (34 miles/55 km)
Odense is the capital of Funen – and also well known as the birthplace of author Hans Christian Andersen. It is worth to have a stroll around the city and maybe already today visit the Brandts Klædefabrik, one of Denmark's leading art museums.

Later you cycle West heading for the town of Middelfart. Middelfart lies on the shore of Lillebælt – the sound that divides Fyn and Jutland, and you can cross the old bridge between the two regions – either on your bike or maybe you'll try bridge-walking, where you cross the bridge on foot – up in the air.
Overnight in Middelfart

Day 3: Middelfart
The charming town of Middelfart houses the "CLAY Museum of Ceramic Art Denmark" – the only museum for ceramics in Denmark. Enjoy the finest ceramic arts and crafts ranging from a 235 year old plate in the Royal Copenhagen porcelain collection to the experimental work of contemporary artists.
Overnight in Middelfart

Day 4: Middelfart – Assens (28 miles/45 km)
From world class ceramics out into rural landscape on minor roads and following the coastline parts of the stage.

Today you end up in Assens, a charming old town on the west coast of Funen overlooking Lillebælt (Small Belt) and the hometown of the unusual museum Ernsts Samlinger (Ernst's Collections) with antiques, silver, porcelain and more. In Assens you will also find the old grocers house Willemosegaarden.
Overnight in Assens

Day 5: Assens – Faaborg (25 miles/40 km)
Heading southeast towards the "Alps of Funen," today's route gives you both very nice looks over the water and also comfortable challenges in the gently hilled landscape. You pass manor houses and century old churches and approaching your destination, the old harbour town of Faaborg, you start overlooking the archipelago of south Funen, where you might spot a local ferry or the sail of an old wooden ship. Faaborg itself offers small streets to stroll and old houses to create a very specific atmosphere.

Faaborg Museum is a complete work of art comprising painting, sculpture, architecture and furniture design. The Museum is an architectural gem.
Overnight in Faaborg

Day 6: Faaborg – Odense (32 miles/52 km)
You are heading back to the city, but do not forget to enjoy the landscape on today's stage.

The route takes you through the beautiful undulating terrain just North of Faaborg and maybe you'll choose to take a lunch break at the old inn in Brobyværk.
Enjoy the timbered houses, the flowers, the old trees, and the beautiful countryside as you cycle along.
Overnight in Odense

Day 7: Odense – Kerteminde – Odense (31 miles/50 km)
Even though Odense offers lots of attractions and restaurants, we strongly recommend you to take your bike for an excursion to the town of Kerteminde to visit the Johannes Larsen Museum. The cycling is nice and easy, and the museum is definitely worth a visit. Johannes Larsen was an active artist and illustrator until his death in 1961.

Furthermore, if you choose to cycle to Kerteminde today, you'll get to see the Great Belt (now that you have already seen the Small Belt) and maybe even the Great Belt Bridge: one of the longest bridges in the world.
Overnight in Odense

Day 8: Departure
Time to travel home – or maybe to extend your holiday with a day or two extra in Odense – or maybe in Copenhagen.
